fightline.com said:UFC light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson is 100-percent and ready to get back inside the Octagon. Who he faces, though, remains a mystery.
Jon Jones, the division's kingpin, recently defended his title, but suffered a broken toe in the process. Lyoto Machida has been tabbed the No. 1 contender, and is currently without a planned fight.
While Machida wants a title shot next, he made it known that he'd be willing to face Gustafsson. "The Mauler" appeared on The MMA Hour Monday and responded.
"I want to fight Jones. I want to fight for the title," he said. "But, I am not going to wait for a long time (to fight). I want to fight in a couple of months. If Jones can't fight....then I will fight Machida."
Gustafsson topped Mauricio "Shogun" Rua late last year and was called the top contender after the win. However, Machida's victory vs. Dan Henderson pushed him to the front of the line.
This will definitely be a No. 1 contender's match. It'll be interesting seeing as Lyoto Machida has never fought anyone as tall as Gustafsson so it'll be interesting to see how he handles the distance Alex can cover with his boxing.
