According to Variety, Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor is in talks to direct the rebooted Terminator movie, the first in a stand-alone trilogy. Will Arnold Schwarzenegger be back as the T-800?
That's the $20 million dollar question because when Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures officially announced the trilogy in a joint release back in June, they didn't say Schwarzenegger will be in the new movies. Perhaps it's because Schwarzenegger won't officially commit to the movies until the director and scripts are finalized, though he did say in past interviews that he'll be in them.
Not much is known about the new movie, but it has been rumored that Schwarzenegger may play the human whom the original T-800 is based on and that Dwayne Johnson may play the robot out to kill him, which sounds kind of outlandish unless the first movie is the setup for Johnson to take over as the face of the Terminator franchise.
Taylor, best known for his work on HBO's TV series like The Sopranos and Game of Thrones, is currently putting the finishing touches on Marvel's Thor: The Dark World, which will be in theaters this year on November 8.
According to Schwarzenegger, the Terminator reboot will start shooting in January 2014 for release on June 26, 2015. Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are writing the script.
As long as Arnie is the human with whom the T-800 is based on and not the T-800 it might work out. I can't see an aging Arnie playing a machine that does not age. I wouldn't mind them coming up someone new to play the T-800 if they are truly rebooting it. I hope this is a good thing though but my faith in the Terminator series has been waning quite a bit.
