Al Iaquinta vs. Rodrigo Damm set for UFC Fight Night 50 in Connecticut
The UFC’s September return to Connecticut continues to build with the addition of a lightweight fight.
Al Iaquinta (8-3-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) is set to meet Rodrigo Damm (12-7 MMA, 3-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 50. UFC officials announced the matchup after an initial report from Newsday.
UFC Fight Night 50 takes place Sept. 5 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Conn. It’s a rare Friday night show for the UFC – and falls on the same night as Bellator 123 in nearby Uncasville, less than 10 miles away. The bulk of the UFC Fight Night 50 card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following a few prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
Iaquinta, from New York, won’t be fighting too far from home. He’ll be looking to get back on track after a bit of a shocker in his most recent fight, when Mitch Clarke upset him with a second-round D’Arce choke at UFC 173. After a solid first round, Iaquinta got caught in the choke and was put to sleep 57 seconds into the second to have a three-fight winning streak snapped.
Damm also will be in search of a rebound after a unanimous decision loss to Rashid Magomedov at the TUF Brrazil 3 Finale in late May. That setback broke a two-fight streak of decision wins over Ivan Jorge and Mizuto Hirota. The fight in Connecticut will be Damm’s first in the United States in nearly three and a half years, since his final Strikeforce fight in April 2011, and his first outside his native Brazil since November 2012.
WIth the addition, the latest UFC Fight Night 50 card now includes:
Gegard Mousasi vs. Ronaldo Souza
Alistair Overeem vs. Ben Rothwell
Derrick Lewis vs. Matt Mitrione
Michael Chiesa vs. Joe Lauzon
Andre Fili vs. Sean Soriano
Nik Lentz vs. Charles Oliveira
Chris Beal vs. Rob Font
Chris Camozzi vs. Rafael Natal
Rodrigo Damm vs. Al Iaquinta
