Road to WWE Royal Rumble 2017


Event Announcement
The 2017 edition of the WWE Royal Rumble pay per view event was confirmed for the the 29th of January 2017 and would take place in San Antonio Texas at the Alamodome.


2017 Royal Rumble Match
Rather fittingly the first match announced for the titluar pay per view event was the 2017 edition of the thirty man over the rope battle royal known as the Royal Rumble match. It was revealed that the field of competition would consist of mostly male WWE Superstars from Monday Night RAW and Friday Night Smackdown. However the company has promised that there will be several suprises.

Universal Championship - Chris Jericho is Banned
Kevin Owens(c) VS Seth Rollins
On the first episode of Monday Night RAW of the new year the main event was a one on one match for the WWE Universal Championship. Between the current reigning and defending champion the self-proclaimed "Prize Fighter" Kevin Owens(c) and the fan favourite Seth Rollins. Which concluded with the defending champion aka Owens getting the win to retain the gold.

Owens got the win by way of the some unseen help from his tag team partner Chris Jericho. This action from Jericho drew the ire of MNR General Manager Mick Foley who revealed that Rollins would get a rematch for the gold at the Royal Rumble. Not only that but Jericho would be banned from ringside under threat of being removed from the Rumble match itself, and Jericho would be the first entrant into it. ​

Women's Universal Championship
Charlotte Flair(c) VS Paige
On the first episode of Monday Night RAW of 2017, Bayley and Paige faced off in a Number One Contender(s) match. Despite a good showing from the former aka Bayley she would end up losing the encounter and falling victim to the RamPaige. As a result it was confirmed that the winner of the match aka Paige, would be getting her title shot at the Royal Rumble.



Universal Tag Team Championship - If the Challengers Lose They Must Disband
The Bar(c) VS Enzo Amore & Big Cass
The current reigning Universal Tag Team Champions, the duo of Cesaro and Sheamus aka The Bar(c) had a meeting with MNR GM Mick Foley on an episode of MNR. In which they were granted the right to have an Open Challenge for the gold which would be called the Above or Below the Bar Challenge. Which basically means that if the challegers lose the match, they must disband. ​

The first episode of Friday Night Smackdown of 2017, the brand's General Manager Paul Heyman took to the squared circle. To make an announcement regarding the night's main event match a ten man mini rumble match with the winner being crowned.

The Number One Contender to the World Championship and as a result would earn the right to challenge for the gold at the Royal Rumble, currently around the waist of the "Phenomenal" AJ Styles(c).
