The NXT TakeOver: San Antonio event was announced for the 28th of Janauary 2017, and it would happen at Freedom Coliseum.

NXT Championship - 2/3 Falls - Loser Leaves NXT
Shinsuke Nakamura(c) VS Samoa Joe
NXT General Manager William Regal promised a huge main event for the NXT TakeOver: San Antonio event and he deliver just that. From August 2016 the NXT Championship had been around the waists of two of the black and gold brand's top superstars. Those being the current reigning and defending champion, the "King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura(c), and the former champion, the "Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe.

Regal took to the ring on an episode of NXT to invite both champion and former champion to join him in the squared circle which they both did. He then stated that while he had enjoyed their feud over the brand's top prize, it was time for it to come to it's conclusion. In the spirit of his previous statement, he aka Regal revealed that the two men would meet one final time in San Antonio, in a two out of three falls, loser leaves NXT match for the NXT Championship.

NXT Women's Championship - Open Challenge
Asuka(c) VS ???
Switching over to the top prize on offer from the black and gold brand aka NXT, the NXT Women's Championship and the current champion. The "Empress" Asuka(c) took to the ring on an episode of of the show to cut a promo in which she issued an open challenge and a warning.

The reigning and defending NXT Women's Champion said that anyone in the back who was fool enough to answer her Open Challenge in San Antonio. Would only end up losing and embarrassing themselves.


NXT Tag Team Championship
DIY(c) VS Heavy Machinery
The third and final championship match announced for NXT TakeOver: San Antonio event regarded the NXT Tag Team Championship. Featuring the reigning and defending champions, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa aka DIY(c).

And the the pairing of Otis Dozovic and Tucker Knight aka Heavy Machinery, who earned a title shot by defeating the champions in a non-title match on NXT.

Bobby Roode VS Tye Dillinger
Two men who had been feuding with each other starting in late 2016 were the duo of "Glorious" Bobby Roode and "Perfect" Tye Dillinger. NXT General Manager William Regal was growing sick of their repeated brawls and as a result announced that the two men would meet in San Antonio.

SaNiTy VS True Blue
The final match made official for the NXT TakeOver: San Antonio was a six man tag team match to put an end to another feud. Between the psychotic trio of Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe and Sawyer Fulton aka SaNiTy, and a trio of Australian standouts, in the forms of Buddy Murphy, Mikey Nicholls and Shane Haste called True Blue.

• SaNiTy with Nikki Cross defeated True Blue with Eric Young pinning Buddy Murphy with a Piledriver.

• A video package hyped up the debut of the “Belfast Beast” Killian Dain. Which would be taking place on the post-TakeOver episode of NXT.

• Bobby Roode got the better of Tye Dillinger following the Glorious DDT.

• Backstage pre-recorded promos from Heavy Machinery and NXT Tag Team Champions DIY©. The duo of Dozovic and Knight said that they would win the gold. Whereas DIY said they like the passion of the opponents. But they would need more then that to beat them, as they bleed NXT.

• Asuka© retained the NXT Women’s Championship by beating Liv Morgan. Morgan was revealed as the woman who answered the open challenge.

• A video package hyped up the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble pay per view. Which would take place tomorrow night at the Alamodome.

• DIY© successfully defended the NXT Tag Team Championship. Against Heavy Machinery, when Tommaso Ciampa pinned Otis Dozovic following the Meeting in the Middle.

• Backstage pre-recorded promos from NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura©. And Number One Contender Samoa Joe aired. With Nakamura stating he respects Joe but the NXT Championship is more important. Joe said that tonight he proves why he is the man who should be representing NXT.

• Shinsuke Nakamura© beat Samoa Joe in a 2 out of 3 Falls, Loser Leaves NXT match. Nakamura got the first fall with a Landslide. Joe fired back with a Muscle Buster to even the score. The deciding fall saw Nakamura hit back-to-back Kinshasa’s.
