AEW is looking at making its Canadian debut with a show in Toronto.
Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that while the company is working on running an event in the city, it's not yet clear what venue it would take place in.
"AEW has at least started work on the idea of a Canada debut in Toronto. It’s not yet known when and what arena they would run," Meltzer wrote.
WWE typically runs the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto for television and pay-per-view events. The August 22 edition of WWE Raw will take place there. WWE House shows run from the Coca-cola Coliseum, which is home to the AHL's Toronto Marlies. WrestleMania VI and X8 both took place in the Rogers Center (FKA SkyDome), which is home to the Toronto Blue Jays.
"If the debut would be a Saturday night PPV in November, they may want to take the chance of Rogers Centre, the former Skydome. I don’t think they could get 50,000 but people in the market tell me they believe they could get 30,000, but more likely they’d play it safe and run Scotiabank Arena," Meltzer continued.
The Khan family also owns the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto, having purchased it in 2016.
Tony Khan was in Toronto last month and spoke to Sportsnet about AEW potentially running shows in Canada.
“I’d love to get up to Canada,” Khan said. “We had planned to come to Toronto, we’re going back to a lot of these cities we were looking at now, and I think it makes a lot of sense to come up here."
“I don’t have the exact dates yet, but I’d like to come (to Canada) soon, very soon.”
