AEW has filed to trademark new potential names for wrestling events.
The promotion has reportedly filed to trademark the terms "Wrestling Bowl" and "WrestleBowl." While the filings have not yet been made public by the US Patent & Trademark Office, Fightful is reporting that the purposes of the trademarks are listed as follows:
Mark For: WRESTLEBOWL trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of conducting entertainment exhibitions in the nature of wresting exhibits and performances by professional wrestlers; Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services in the nature of development, creation, production, distribution, and post-production of television shows; Entertainment services in the nature of live wrestling performances; Entertainment services in the nature of production of wrestling programs and wrestling multimedia entertainment event content; Entertainment services, namely, production and distribution of ongoing television programs in the field of wrestling; Fan clubs; Providing a website featuring entertainment information in the fields of wrestling, sports, and entertainment; Providing entertainment information in the fields of wrestling, sports, and entertainment via a website; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network.
The NWA produced two Superbowl of Wrestling events in the 1970s. The first took place in Cleveland on August 12, 1972, and saw Johnny Powers defeat Johnny Valentine. A second Superbowl of Wrestling was held on January 25, 1978, in the Miami Orange Bowl. Several independent organizations have run events named "WrestleBowl" in the past as well. These include Heart of Texas wrestling, which presents WrestleBowl II in February, Pro Wrestling Allstars of Detroit held an event with that name earlier this year and Hoosier Pro Wrestling also held a WrestleBowl event in 2000.
WCW produced several Battle Bowl events, both as part of Starrcade 91 & 92 and as its own standalone pay-per-view in 1993. A fourth Battle. Bowl was held at WCW Slamboree in 1996.
Impact Wrestling has held eight Turkey Bowls throughout its history. The unique rules of the match involve the pinned wrestler having to wear a turkey suit after. Impact has not held the Turkey Bowl since 2018, however.
