Toni Storm is the interim AEW Women's Champion because Rosa is injured atm but it supposed to be short term just so we are on the same page to start.

Eliminator matches in AEW are a win and you get a title shot match. If you lose, back of the line. Basically a way for unranked talent to have an opportunity to challenge the champion in a non title match with more than just implied stakes.

there is precedent for the challenger to win these and lose them so it's often not a forgone conclusion (though it likely is in this case lol). For example, Yamashita won an eliminator match against Rosa

I think it's more they don't like the phrase "non-title" and want to give matches with the champion in them some stakes even tho you can have the same rules in non-title matches lol I don't really care one way or another, but I think it's a lot bc WWE put a negative stigma on "non-title" before they started avoiding the term themselves as well
