So...I recently watched the Universal title match from the Crown Jewel event
where Brock Lesnar went over Braun Strowman in 3 minutes & 15 seconds &
I would like to say I care...but I don't really.

I know some fans were pretty pissed off with the entire situation & I did watch
a interesting video on Youtube where the term "Protected Squash" was used.

Now to me this is like the ultimate oxymoron in terms of wrestling vocabulary
but I thought I throw the question over to those who know better...and that would
be you guys.

So...I ask all of the members here...

Can there be such a match booked as a "Protected Squash"?

Leave your votes, thoughts, comments & opinions below & as always...I'll see you
all around the traps.

Braun got pearl harbored by Corbin before the bell. Got hit by 3 F5's. Kicked out of everyone one of them. Got F5'ed out of the ring. Stil makes it back in for the count. Then after the 5th F5, Brock finally got the win.

Braun was protected far too much. 5 F5's ffs.

So yeah a protected squash does exist. As long as there is a reason.

Protected squashes never work.. It always damages the performers character when they get squashed like that, especially when they're suppose to be a monster like Strowman.

In wrestling, a squash is an extremely one-sided match; one performer dominates the other and quickly defeats him with virtually no resistance.
Brock/Strowman was pretty one-sided but Braun showed a lot of resistance by kicking out of Lesnar's strongest move several times and also showing signs of fighting back towards the end. If you also add the pre-match attack by Corbin, it's hard for me to even call it a squash if we go by the definition. A squash is usually just a move, maybe another move, finisher, pin and it's done.

When you look at a high-level squash like, for example, Goldberg/Lesnar from Survivor Series 2016, it worked out well for both because of what went down the following months and how the story progressed. But during the squash match itself, there's no real way of protecting the victim. So I'd say no

I'd say they exist, but almost never work. Like some people would disagree, but I thought the Braun Brock match just hurt both guys. Sure, Braun kicked out of 4 F5s, but he still lost AGAIN in a match where he had no reason to lose, so he looks bad. And Brock, sure he took 97% of the match, but 5 finishers and interference? Not very Beast like to me, more like Cena and his 17 AAs per match. It ended up hurting both guys, so while they certainly tried a protected squash, it didn't have the benefits of a protect nor the benefits of a squash

You can be protected in a squash if you go up against William Regal with his brass knuckles.

Lesnar vs Cena at Summerslam was also a protected squash. Difference in length of the match though, where Lesnar dominated forblike 30 minutes instead of 3

Generally they don't work. Apparently Braun has back stage heat on him so hence he loses a lot in big matches. Expect Drew to beat Lesnar for the title maybe at WM.

Drew for the Rumble win and a face turn?

that wasn't a squash, Brock dominated for most of the match but John never fully looked like an unequal to Lesnar. Firstly, Brock didn't beat him quick enough, Cena kicked out of an F5, had a decent comeback and even got to execute both of his finishers before Lesnar put him away. It's definitely one of the most 1-sided WWE title matches but I wouldn't call it a squash.

It's great watching it back tho, that was some crazy stuff back then. After breaking the streak until 2015, Brock was on his shit when it came to PPV matches

Random note. SWL, love the avatar.

Anyway the entire Strowman arch really bugs me as much as wrestling can bother me. This is already one of the greatest What Ifs to ever happen.

I think this was a protected squash on paper. This was a good idea, on paper. This was the textbook definition of not doing any damage, on paper.

With context this whole arc of his is a disaster. I don't think it was "right" to give him the title here, because it wouldn't feel right if he finally got his W just because Roman's gone. Especially after falling to just one last year to build up Roman... Sure. Again, on paper, nothing has truly happened to bury Strowman at all. But them not giving him the title last year when he should have, the amazing stupidity of turning him heel to feud with Roman, now him being used to set up a Baron Corbin feud...

There's a reason nothing matters on this show and nobody's tuning in. If they were going to give him the title, stop fucking around and do it already.
But it doesn't matter, it's a multimillion dollar company who gets to have the universal title on a UFC PPV, cool story

Strowman should have taken the title in 2017 vs Lesnar (Summerslam IMHO?) Roman can still be the guy but you have 2-3 guys as plan B in case of injuries etc. THose would be Strowman, Seth, and I think they may strap a rocket to Drew.
On SD you have AJ but in the Attitude era you had Rock and Austin (Rock when Austin was injured) but you also had Kane, Mankind/Foley, and Underaker and later HHH who can step up if required.

Some of the older guys who are stupidly over should also be protected a bit and in a year or two they pass the torch to the others (Samoa Joe, Rude, Nakamura). Use the late 30's and early 4-0's guys while you still can and while they are/were hot.
