Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars, the first film in the Clint Eastwood-led Dollars trilogy, is getting a remake.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest version of A Fistful of Dollars will come from Gianni Nunnari and Simon Horsman's Euro Gang Entertainment, saddling up alongside Italian production partner Enzo Sisti of FPC and Rome-based Jolly Film, the producer and distributor of Leone's 1964 spaghetti western.
"I am delighted to partner with Gianni again, having just worked with him on Those About to Die and with Simon on the remake of this classic film, which created a whole new sub-genre in film spawning over 500 European Westerns," Sisti said in a statement.
Nunnari and Horsman added: "Enzo is one of the most experienced producers in the film business, and we are fortunate to call him our partner on this incredible project. We are determined to produce a remake that does justice to the great Sergio Leone's classic."
A Fistful of Dollars not only helped launch Eastwood into big-screen stardom as the mysterious stranger who wanders into a town torn between two warring factions, it is also a remake of Akira Kurosawa's samurai classic Yojimbo and the first in a trilogy comprising For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
As the remake is in its early stages, production and casting details are currently under wraps.
Akira Kurosawa is rolling in his grave.
