Spike TV confirms three-part "UFC Primetime: Rampage vs. Evans" special for UFC 114
by Dann Stupp on Apr 16, 2010 at 12:35 pm ET
A UFC 114 main-event fight between Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, whose long-brewing rivalry came to a head while they coached opposing teams on "The Ultimate Fighter 10," will be the focus of the next "UFC Primetime" special.

Spike TV officials today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the three-part series debuts May 12 at 11 p.m. ET/PT.

New episodes air May 19 and May 26, both at 11 p.m. ET/PT, following "TUF 11" episodes.

Spike TV soon will announce replay dates for each episode.

For "UFC Primetime: Rampage vs. Evans," cameras will follow Evans as he prepares for the fight at Greg Jackson's camp in New Mexico and Jackson as he works with the Wolfslair Academy in England.

The three-part series, which is being produced by the UFC, builds up to UFC 114, which takes place May 29 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event coincides with UFC Fan Expo 2010 during Memorial Day weekend.

Although billed primarily as a grudge match between two rivals, the fight actually has some pretty serious light-heavyweight title implications. Both fighters are former champs and realistically could be fighting for No. 1 contender's status at UFC 114.

Evans (14-1-1 MMA, 9-1-1 UFC) returns to the cage for the first time since January, when he headlined an injury-riddled UFC 108 card and topped Thiago Silva via unanimous decision. Prior to the win, Evans suffered his first career loss and lost his belt to Lyoto Machida. The knockout loss came after an impressive stretch in which Evans topped Michael Bisping, Chuck Liddell and then-champ Forrest Griffin.

Jackson (30-7 MMA, 5-1 UFC), meanwhile, returns to the cage after what will be a 15-month layoff. Jackson has been out of action for the "TUF 10" filming and then a subsequent clash with UFC management and a movie role in the soon-to-be-released movie, "The A-Team," in which he plays B.A. "Bad Attitude" Baracus. Prior to the layoff, Jackson had rebounded from his title loss to Griffin with wins over Wanderlei Silva and Keith Jardine and now looks for his third straight victory.

Finally a Primetime without GSP or Penn. This is going to be good TV!

I'll be sure to watch this. Kinda disappointed that the ppv is in Vegas though. I got money on this fight and wanted to go to the fight.

I can just imagine the large amount of shit talking for the interviews for this Primetime. Rampage just yaps without making any real sense and Rashad Evans is stupid enough to try and counter Rampage's lame insults and trash talk.

Oh this is going to be good.

"UFC Primetime: Rampage vs. Evans" debuts tonight on Spike TV
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on May 12, 2010 at 1:05 pm ET
In anticipation of their UFC 114 main-event fight, former UFC light heavyweight champions Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will be featured in "UFC Primetime," a three-part special that airs on Spike TV.

The first half-hour episode debuts on Spike TV tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT, while parts two and three will air in the same timeslot on May 19 and May 26, respectively.

Both fighters are former champs and UFC president Dana White recently stated that the winner of the contest would likely emerge as the top contender for new title holder Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.

Prior to the layoff, Jackson had rebounded from his title loss to Griffin with wins over Wanderlei Silva and Keith Jardine and now looks for his third-straight victory.

They really should have promoted this more, if I didn't see this on MMAJunkie I would have missed it.

This Primetime's level of trash talking is going to be off the charts. These two have said so much over the past year, I would not want to be the guy who loses.

As much as I love Rampage (he's my favorite fighter) I honestly think that all of the trash talking on these Primetime's is going to be kind of incoherant. Really none of what either person is saying really makes any sense lol.

I got the same message from it. It really mimics childish insults you would hear in grammar school. Rashad calling Rampage "Quittin'?" Rampage just rambling on and on about how he is going to kick Evans' ass? He doesn't even do it in the traditional "I am going to KO him, I am going to take him down and ground and pound" his trash talk is almost laughable at this point. Maybe that is why this rivalry sticks out though. I still think Rampage's trash talk is more childish than Rashad. Some of the arguments on TUF10 made Rampage look like a total blueberry.

Yeah, alot of the stuff that has been said is rather elementary I still LOL whenever I think of the whole "Call Me A Bitch One More Time" interaction/segment that they had on TUF. The stupidity of the whole rivalry is what makes it so interesting, neither person has really said anything of validity. Just a bunch of random 2nd grade insults. If anything Rampage has made Rashad look dumb by getting him to react.

And didn't this all start with a prank war on TUF? Or something stupid like that/

Well I think they just naturally hated each other post Rampage's fight with Wanderlei. It slowly built up then it just exploded on TUF. I recall two pranks, there might have been more. Rampage put a bunch of chickens in Evans' car and then someone's locker room got painted pink. Both of which are two REALLY lame pranks.

Yeah, Rampage painted the locker room pink after Rashad put the chickens in the car, both of which made me  but nothing really bad. Also I remember the coaches challege or WTFever it was that Dana had them do with Volleyball. That was when I think the woule feud got really intense, honestly I am suprised that hey didn't start fighting at some point legit.

Honestly, part of me thinks that some of this animosity is played up just for a big pay check. But it's pretty evident that they do not like each other.

NoDQ.com > UFC > Rampage sees Rashad fight as step backwards?
Posted by Danny Seven on 05/13/2010 at 01:26 PM

Credit: Fighter's Only Magazine

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans will decide who is the number one contender to fight Shogun Rua, but for Rampage, he feels it is a step back having to fight Rashad:

"I want to go get Rashad. Nice warm-up fight, kick his ass. Fight Shogun, redeem myself for my sleep, for my mind. Then go and beat the hell out of Forrest, retire him.... I feel like fighting Rashad is a step backwards, because he doesn’t have the belt anymore. But if things go right, this will be a Nice warm-up fight for Shogun. If everything works out it will be Nice. Everybody knows I took time off, it would be stupid to go right into a title fight with Shogun so this will be a good test for me. If I lose to Rashad I don’t even deserve to get my belt back!"

I wouldn't call it a step backwards especially now more so then before Rampage pulled out to film the A-Team

Before Rampage's hiatus I could have seen it as a step back, but being that he hasn't been in the cage for awhile it's really the only logical step that he could take for him to be looked at as a contender.
