The winner of a $228.9 million Powerball lottery has stepped forward, the Minnesota Lottery said Friday.
"This is the largest jackpot ever won in Minnesota," said Acting Lottery Director Jenny Canfield said in a statement.
The winner's name was not immediately available and it was not clear if he or she would hold a news conference.
Lottery officials say it's the largest jackpot ever won in Minnesota. The winner has the option of taking about $123 million in cash now - which would be about $84 million after taxes - or a full payout over 30 years, minus taxes.
The ticket for the multistate lottery was sold in Minnesota's Dakota County.
The payout is the largest Powerball jackpot since $261 million was won in June
