There are a few other categories but these are the main ones. The Oscars will be held on the 24th of February and Academy Award nominee Seth McFarlane will host.

Lincoln leads the way with 12 nominations with Life of Pi close behind with 11. Silver Linings Playbook is the first film in 31 years to get a nomination in each of the four acting categories. Two age-related records were broken this year, as Emmanuelle Riva (85) became the oldest nominee for Best Actress, while Quenzhane Wallis (9) became the youngest.

Looking at the nominations I am slightly disappointed, but not really surprised, that Skyfall didn't get a best picture nod. They only went with 9 so there was one more spot open, bit disappointing that the big blockbusters (The Avengers anyone?) were ignored as well. Fun stat, Amour has made less than $2 million worldwide, I am amazed it was nominated because voters have to have seen a movie to have nominated it and clearly not many have seen it.

Best Actor nods look good. Very happy that Jackman got a nomination and also that Denzel got a nomination for Flight. Doesn't matter though as Daniel Day Lewis has it in the bag. For Best Actress surprise at Naomi Watts nomination, I saw the trailer for The Impossible and I thought it looked poor.

Ben Affleck got screwed, how he wasn't nominated for Best Director I do not know. Never heard anyone predict Zeitlin getting the nod there.

Biggest snub of all has to be The Intouchables missing out on Best Foreign Language Film, how it isn't top five is baffling to me.

Your thoughts on the nominations? Who do you think will win? I will get some vbookies up in the next week.

These are the movies from the best picture nomination that I have seen:

Argo
Les Miserables
Django Unchained
Silver Linings Playbook
Lincoln

I loved all of these movies. Any of them win it, I wouldn't be disappointed. I feel like Lincoln winning would be a let down a little bit because of how predictable it would be. I would love to see Django win it, but I feel like that would too much of a politically incorrect move. Just the fact that Django was nominated is awesome enough. Les Miserables is still stuck in my head to this day, and I would applaud in front of my TV for it to win.

I actually think Jackman has a outside chance of upsetting DDL, LM is proving a very poppluar film and Jackman has a likeable presence.

Don't get your point on Amour because the voters are made up of people in the film business I assume they have seen it.

The ironic thing it is possible that Skyfall might even lose out in the best song department.

Am pleased to see War Witch nominated in Foreign film, saw it at the Brighton Film Festival last year and it is very good.

Hope Paranorman wins for best Animated Film.

Predictions:

Best Film: Lincoln

Best Leading Actor: Hugh Jackman (Lewis having won before might work against him)

Best Leading Actress: Jennifer Lawrence

Best Supporting Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman

Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway

Best Animated Feature: Frankieweenie

Directing: Steven Spielberg

Original Screen Play: Taratino

Adapted Screenplay: David O' Russell (Silver Linings)

Original Song: Suddenly (LM)

Foriegn Film: Amour

Have only see one of the best Picture nomination, that being Silver Linings which is one of my favourite films of last year, but will catch up with the likes of Les Miserables and Lincoln.

Phoenix really deserves to win for The Master, its a stunning career best performance from him.

Some of the better movies I've seen this year were snubbed. Perks of being a Wallflower top among them. And Affleck should not only have been nominated but should have won.

I kind of expect Lincoln to take everything.

Saw the Impossible today and as well as being knocked out by the film, Naomi Watts was very good in it, so I think she deserves her nomination, even if she has very little chance of winning. Have been a fan of hers since Mulholland Drive another awards worthy performance.

Pretty sure the guys who shortlist this just look on IMDB and see what movie Daniel Day Lewis has starred in and just put that up for everything.

If you aren't DDL or a period drama, you probably aren't winning shit.

Ben Afleck winning the Golden Globe for Best Director just emphasises how big a snub this is, how can the Golden Globe winner not even be nominated. Argo winning Best Picture at the Globes surprised me a bit and it could be a sign of whats to come at the Oscars. Happy seeing Hugh Jackman win a Golden Globe, I still can't see him beating DDL but it would be incredible if he does.

Think they have made an error nominating Hathaway for Les Miserables instead of as Cat Woman in Batman, think that was by far the better performance and deserved a nod.

Saw Life of Pi at the weekend and it didn't do much for me, althrough the 3D was better than normal, but hope it doesn't win best film.

Am looking forward to Lincoln.

Superhero movie ain't gonna win anything, but I do agree with you. Don't think Hathaway should have been nominated for Les Mis actually. Byrd performance was good, but not THAT good. Crowe should have been nominated for best supporting actor easily though.

A superhero movie is not going to win best film, but don't see why a memeber of the cast can't win best supporting actress.

wouldn't her role in DKR be considered a leading actress role?? I am under the impression that each film has a lead actor and actress and then everyone else is in a supporting role... i could be wrong but I don't think you could have a supporting actress nomination when being the featured female role

Lord Of The Rings is a superhero movie, it followed every cliche to a tee and it got awards. That is a moot point.

Too bad Dark Knight Rises was the worst of the nolan franchise.

Lord of the Rings are not superhero movies at all. May have followed the same cliche, but there's a huge difference in a fantasy film like those three and a Batman & Superman movie.

So far I've seen all the movies nominated for Best Picture besides Beasts of the Southern Wild, Zero Dark Thirty, and Lincoln. Argo & Les Mis are the two I'd like to win best picture. Still a travesty that Affleck wasn't nominated for Best Director, and I seriously think Crowe should have been at least nominated for best supporting actor.

Superheroes are the modern day mythologies, to think they are different than a fantasy picture isn't logical, seeing as both use the same formula of good vs evil and have magical powers or are warriors and such. Jus saying.

Argo will most likely get best picture. Even though it was pure Hollywood fiction.
