ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Two Albuquerque police officers have been fired following the release of video that showed them apparently doing a celebratory belly bump after one officer kicked a suspect multiple times.
The firings came Wednesday. Officers John Doyle and Robert Woolever had both been with the department for about four years.
The parking garage surveillance video obtained by an Albuquerque Journal reporter on Tuesday showed Doyle kicking the car theft suspect in the head more than a dozen times.
The video's release comes amid calls for a Justice Department probe of the department, which has faced criticism for 20 officer-involved shootings and other questionable behavior among officers.
A special prosecutor is reviewing the Feb. 13 beating.
