MATCH 8
World Heavyweight Championship
John Cena © v Shawn Michaels
(Single)
The bell rings and Shawn Michaels begins the match by extending his hand. John Cena stares at the offered handshake, before looking to the crowd for support. Cena looks to the left and sees a cheering crowd, and then looks to the right to see more of the same. John goes to shake Shawn’s hand but Michaels pulls it away and slaps Cena playfully across the face, with some vintage HBK. Cena rubs his cheek looking annoyed and stares a hole through Shawn. HBK then smiles cheekily before delivering Cena’s signature ‘You can’t see me’ taunt, to which Cena replies with a hard right hand to the jaw. The crowd boos Cena for this as the World Champion then unloads on HBK with some more punches directed at the head. Shawn tries to shield his face but Cena’s aggression overpowers him, as he takes HBK down with a Lou Thesz press followed by some more punches to the skull.
HBK cowers and flails around trying to protect himself but the rage boiling inside the Champ keeps him going with the stiff punches. The referee tells Cena to stop and let Shawn breathe but John simply pushes the official away and goes to attack Shawn again, only to be taken down with a drop toe hold. Shawn pulls himself up by the ropes but the momentary advantage has gone, as Cena is also back on his feet and he again starts to hammer away at Michaels with even more punches. Shawn covers his face in fear of a broken nose as he backs into the corner. Due to this, the referee forces Cena to back off Shawn, threatening him with disqualification. Cena hesitantly takes his hands off Shawn allowing him to finally catch his breath but once HBK steps away from the ropes Cena immediately decks him with a particularly nasty right hand that busts Shawn open from the nose as the crowd cringes and some boos are thrown out.
HBK crawls up onto a kneeling position but Cena then runs off the opposite ropes and dives at HBK, grabbing his head in the middle of a flip, which sends him face first into the canvas. Cena likes to call this move the Throwback and it does no good to help HBK’s bloody nose, which is again forced straight into the mat, staining it a deep red. Cena shows no remorse with his offense as he follows up with some stomps to the back of HBK’s head, and by now Shawn’s nose may as well be broken. Cena stops and HBK flops on his back to reveal a heavily busted up nose, and the referee asks him whether he has had enough, though the ever persistent Show Stopper continues the match. Cena tells him he should have quit before grinding the sole of his boot across Shawn’s face and nose; with this face wash garnering immense heat from the vocal crowd.
Cena gets up and does his military salute to the crowd, only to be met with a huge number of boos after his previous acts in the match. Cena looks startled at this warm reception and does the ‘you can’t see me’ taunt to the crowd which again receives a very hot reaction. Cena begins to look frustrated that the crowd has turned their back on him and he shakes his head before turning back to HBK who is panting on his knees. Shawn tries to fight back with a punch to Cena’s gut, but the World Champ simply uses his boot to push HBK down to the floor. HBK scrambles over to the ropes where he tries to pull himself up, only for Cena to try and yank him away from the side of the ring. HBK however manages to steadily hold onto the ropes and kick Cena in the gut, doubling him over. HBK then kicks Cena straight in the face, causing upper body to fly back into normal position, though dazed. Shawn then rebounds off the ropes he is on before taking Cena down with a flying forearm smash, which gains a big pop from the ground. Both men then lay on the mat without moving, before HBK SWIFTLY GETS TO HIS FEET WITH A KIP UP, WHICH GETS A HUGE RECEPTION FROM THE CROWD.
Finally getting some offense in the match, Shawn walks over to Cena who is also stirring. He lifts the champ to his feet before whacking him with a knife edge chop that echoes throughout the arena. He follows up with another hard chop to the chest as Cena backs himself into the corner to escape Shawn’s signature attacks. As per the rules, Cena is by the ropes and the referee forces HBK away from him. Shawn pushes him away though and goes back to the turnbuckle, only for Cena to drop him to the mat with another vicious right hand, reminiscent of the one earlier in the night that busted Shawn open. HBK falls to the ground clutching his jaw as Cena pulls himself up to the top rope on the corner where he stands. He waits for Shawn to get in a bent over position and then JUMPS OFF FOR THE SUPER FAME ASSER, ONLY FOR SHAWN TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY AT THE LAST SECOND, LEAVING CENA TO CONNECT WITH NOTHING BUT CANVAS!
Cena lands legs first and rolls painfully onto his back, and HBK takes advantage of the position the champ is in by covering,

Cena rolls to the side!
HBK does not let the kick out frustrate him, as he picks Cena up and goes to weaken him down even further by nailing him with three consecutive backhand chops in the same part of his chest. John struggles for a breath as he clutches his chest but is then dropkicked to the ground by the Icon. HBK then nails Cena square in the chest with a standing elbow drop before going to the top rope. The crowd cheers and he does his usual theatrics, before JUMPING OFF THE TOP ROPE AND HITTING CENA STRAIGHT IN THE CHEST WITH A DIVING ELBOW DROP!
The crowd goes wild as Shawn covers, only to immediately see that Cena already has an arm on the ropes, so a pin can’t be made. He tries to pull the champ into the centre of the ring but Cena warily holds onto the ropes with his remaining effort. HBK then tries to pull Cena away by his legs and he successfully does but instead of going for the pin as originally planned, he twists Cena’s legs around and puts him in a modified Figure Four Leg Lock!
Shawn drops to the mat and successfully applies the submission hold, and the pain that the champ is in is evident by his shouts and screams. The pressure being put on Cena’s legs is excruciating and the champ is finding it hard to manage, almost tapping on more than one occasion. Cena however then musters up the effort to try and make his way to the ropes and he pulls himself along the mat but Shawn Michaels does the same in the other direction and due to him being in a superior position, he manages to drag Cena back into the centre of the ring and reapply to hold, much to the champion’s disdain. Shawn continues the assault of Cena’s legs while in the Figure Four and then shouts a ‘Woo’ in respect of his retired friend Ric Flair, and the crowd cheers and replies with a ‘Woo’ of their own. Cena realises he can’t fight the submission any longer and he tries to escape by turning onto his back, which subsequently turns HBK onto his stomach. Cena sees what may be his final opening to escape the hold and he takes it, as he expertly twists himself out of the hold while keeping gold of HBK’s leg. He then gets to his feet and traps Shawn’s leg before GRABBING HIS CHIN AND APPLYING THE STFU, REVERSING ONE SUBMISSION INTO ANOTHER!
HBK is now the one that has to fight and he is in the middle of the ring, so escaping to the ropes will not be an easy task. Cena however is still fairly heavily worn out by the Figure Four Leg Lock and HBK is still probably stronger, so Shawn plans to use this to his advantage by immediately trying to claw himself to the ropes. Cena tries to pull back as hard as her can but the fight in the heart of the challenger allows him to slowly but steadily plough forward to the ropes, eventually touching the bottom one with his fingertips, forcing Cena to break the hold. He does so, and both men lay sprawled out in the centre of the ring, meaning the referee has to start counting.

Shawn also gets up, only to rise straight into a right hand from Cena, followed by a Lou Thesz press which tackles HBK to the ground. In the same position Cena hits Shawn with punches from both hands to both sides of his face but gets off, presumably to inflict more punishment upon the Show Stopper. Cena gets up and waits for HBK to also rise, before taking Shawn down with a snapmare, followed by a dropkick to the back. As HBK again then takes his time to get up, John again catches his breath before running and taking him down with a running flying shoulder block. HBK gets up dazed and groggily walks right into Cena who picks him up and plants him down with the falling front side slam, what he calls the Salute. HBK lands hurt in front of him and Cena stands over him and does the ‘You can’t see me’ taunt to a loud mixed reaction before running and bouncing off the ropes and coming back to Shawn before doing the usual theatrics and then DROPPING A FIST RIGHT ON HIS HEAD WITH THE TRADEMARK FIVE KNUCKLE SHUFFLE!
Cena hooks both legs in the cover,

Kick out to cheers!
Cena sits up looking exhausted and rather depressed about the kick out but despite this, he picks up HBK and nails him with an uppercut, before hooking his leg and going for a Fisherman’s Suplex, only for Shawn to keep his legs planted firmly on the ground. HBK goes to Irish whip Cena but John reverses it into a whip of his own and it is so strong that it sends Shawn running uncontrollably, only for him to control his own momentum as HBK flips up onto the turnbuckle where he holds onto the ropes and manages to stay. HBK then turns to face Cena but the champ, aware of Shawn’s aerial prowess and not wanting to fall victim to a high flying move, quickly runs up to the corner and stops Shawn from diving off. Cena punches Shawn’s upper body before climbing to the second rope. He hooks Shawn’s body and raises him for a Superplex but in the middle of the move, SHAWN MANAGES TO COUNTER IT INTO A FLIPPING NECKBREAKER WHICH LEAVES BOTH MEN DOWN AND OUT IN THE CENTRE OF THE RING, WHILE THE CROWD CHEERS!
Both men are down when suddenly, ‘This Fire Burns’ plays and none other than the Straight Edge Superstar CM Punk walks down to the ring!
Punk walks down the ramp to a big pop and though he looks physically exhausted and walks with a slight limp; he comes down to ringside to rally up his mentor, Shawn Michaels. Punk cheering him on seems to work as well, because Shawn gets to his feet before Cena does. HBK stumbles over to the corner and the crowd goes wild as they see him tuning up the band. He stomps his foot one... two... three... four... five times waiting for Cena to get up. The groggy World Champion finally does and glassy eyed, he turns to face HBK, who is set to land his finishing move. Shawn goes to end the match with the Sweet Chin Music but is shocked to see that CM PUNK HAS GRABBED ONTO HIS FOOT AND PREVENTED HIM FROM LANDING THE MOVE!
John Cena has no idea what has happened and recovers in the ring, regaining his consciousness. HBK looks at Punk on the outside in awe, as the Straight Edge Superstar just shrugs his shoulders and points behind Shawn. HBK, still visibly shocked, turns around to see John Cena geared up and waiting for him. The champ lifts Michaels up onto his shoulders in the fireman’s carry position, before DROPPING HIM DOWN TO THE MAT WITH AN FU!
The crowd boos violently as CM Punk stands on the outside nodding his head and looking proud of himself.
Inside the ring, John Cena covers HBK,

SHAWN MICHAELS KICKS OUT TO EVERYBODY’S BEWILDERMENT!
Cena, Punk and the crowd look astonished as Shawn has done the unthinkable and kicked out of the FU after so much punishment. CM Punk especially looks frustrated that HBK kicked out of the move. He is so frustrated that he runs to the ring generals and takes a chair out from one of them, before snapping it shut with an intimidating clang. Punk takes it over to the edge of the ring where he calls over John Cena. He offers him the chair but the champion refuses, saying he wants to beat Shawn on his own. Punk is extremely frustrated at Cena’s refusal and he slams the chair down on the ring apron in disgust. Cena is still watching Punk looking very confused, when suddenly A RECOVERED SHAWN MICHAELS TAKES HIM FROM BEHIND AND ROLLS HIM UP, PINNING HIM WITH BOTH SHOULDERS DOWN!

JOHN CENA KICKS OUT!
The crowd is again very shocked while CM Punk looks rather relieved. Inside the ring, both Cena and HBK crawl to their feet slowly while on the outside CM Punk again grabs the steel chair to boos from the crowd. The two combatants meet in the centre of the ring and Shawn throws a feeble punch but John Cena blocks it and hauls Shawn onto his shoulders. Cena then adjusts Shawn before THROWING HIM OVER HIS SHOULDERS WITH THE FU!
Wait no, SHAWN COUNTERS BY FLIPPING OVER AND LANDING ON HIS FEET!
Shawn lands next to the ropes and the crowd cheers from this counter when suddenly, hidden from John Cena and the referee, CM PUNK WHACKS SHAWN ACROSS THE BACK WITH A CHAIR WHILE STILL ON THE OUTSIDE BEFORE QUICKLY THROWING IT AWAY!
Punk tries to look innocent as Cena and the ref look shocked as to why Shawn has suddenly slumped down onto his knees. Nevertheless, Cena capitalizes by picking up Shawn and hoisting him onto his shoulders, before FINALLY USING ALL HIS EFFORT TO THROW HIM OFF AND SLAM HIM ONTO THE CANVAS WITH AN FU!
Cena struggles to catch his breath before draping an arm over Shawn in a last grasp effort to win the match,

THE Renegade Diesel
The bell sounds, as the two circle the ring, beaming separate holes into each other. The two eventually close in on each other, and lock up, with Sabin quickly side stepping out, and wrapping around Shelley’s body from the side. Alex grabs Sabin’s arm, and spins out the hold, and thrusts it low. Sabin rolls forward, and wedges up. He spins out the hold, and reverses the arm lock into one of his own. Things are about to get moving for Chris, but Shelley walks over to the ropes, and hooks his leg on it. The referee separates Sabin, and Shelley. Sabin bad mouths Alex, with Alex slapping Sabin. Sabin is about to destroy Alex Shelley, but thinks twice, and steps back. The two circle the ring again, and don’t remove their eyes off each other for a split second. The two cautiously move in, and slowly stick their arms out to get a feel for each other. The two test their strength or so Sabin believes, but Alex is quick to roll backwards, and go for a monkey flip. Sabin keeps ground and instead goes back to the up right position, and drags Shelley up. Sabin goes for a headlock to transition into another maneuver, but Shelley arm drags Chris away. Sabin rolls to his feet, and sprints back at Shelley only to be clipped by the back of the leg by Shelley due to miscalculation of speed. Sabin falls, but Shelley keeps his left leg up, and hits a kick to the groin, as he taunts the down Sabin. Shelley gets Sabin’s other leg for some offense, but Sabin uses all his might to wedge backwards on towards his feet. Alex lunges his arm at Chris to grab him, but Sabin uses his own arm against him, and arm drags Chris. Alex bounces up, and runs at Sabin, but Sabin counters, and whips Alex into the ropes. Alex is coming at Sabin, and Sabin preps up for a toss, but Alex reverses into an arm drag once again. Sabin rolls upwards, and bounces off the ropes to run at Shelley. Shelley dips low for the back body drop, but Sabin nails an enzuiguri on an unsuspecting Shelley. Shelley stumbles away holding his jaw, and slowing the pace of the match. He holds the top rope, and nurses his face.
The two circle the ring, again, and slowly close in. They stick their arms out, and are about to lock up when Alex hits a cheap kick to the midsection. Alex grabs Chris by his hair, and slams it onto the top turnbuckle. Alex shoves Chris into the corner, and kicks him in the gut once more. He grabs Chris Sabin, and sends him running across the ring into the opposite corner. Chris lands back first, and Alex runs at Chris. Chris gets his boot up last minute, and plants it onto Chris’s face. Alex is dazed, and looks up, as Chris hops onto the second turnbuckle. Chris jumps off the second turnbuckle, and wraps his legs onto Alex Shelley. He nails Alex with an aerial hurricanranna! Alex rolls to his feet, but is barely up. He stumbles, and teeters, all over the canvas. He holds the top rope swallowing the pain, but Chris can’t believe his former partner is yet to be down. He sprints towards Alex, but Alex bends down, and sends Chris over the ropes, and outside. Chris held onto the top rope, and landed on his two feet on the apron. Alex turns around getting the sense of feel back into his cranium, as he winds back slowly to punch Chris. Chris telegraphs this as easily as the fans did. He instead blocks Alex, and knocks him stumbling away with a forearm. Alex holds his lip in pain, as he has a minor cut on his lip. Chris pulls back on the top rope, and leaps onto it in mere second. Chris springboards off, and plants Alex with a picture perfect missile dropkick. Alex Shelley falls back to the canvas, and squirms on the floor. Chris Sabin isn’t hesitant in covering Alex for an early win. 1.…….2.…….. Alex kicks out!
Alex sits up holding his jaw, as Chris delivers a well placed kick to the back. Chris runs to the ropes, and returns with a low dropkick to the head of Alex Shelley. Alex holds his head while slowly getting back up to his feet. As he’s up, he turns into a big sole kick to the chest, and Chris grabs a hold of him. He walks over to the center of the ring, and holds him down. He lifts his hand, and points at his palm showing their classic MCMG sign, but instead he nods his head, and sprints to the ropes. He bounces off the ropes, and is about to leap for an enzuiguri, but Alex bursts at Chris with a elbow shot, and spins towards Sabin. He grabs Sabin, and wretches his forearm tape into Sabin’s forehead. Sabin yells in pain, as Alex holds it, wrenching even harder. The referee counts Chris down. 1..2...3...4. Alex lets him go, and holds his hands up innocently. Chris Sabin holds his head, but fires back with an angry forearm. Alex is dazed, but Chris misinterprets how dazed, as he runs to the ropes, with Alex right next to him. Chris turns around running off the ropes, but Alex hit’s a jumping bulldog. Alex Shelley covers Chris in hopes of a win. 1.…2.… Chris throws his shoulder up breaking the count. Alex pops up, and stomps on the face of Sabin. The referee tells Alex about the face, but Alex tells him to go to hell. Alex points at his hand, and instead of putting his hand straight; he gives Chris the bird. Alex stomps on Chris’s stomach, and runs to the ropes. He leaps to the second rope, and jumps backwards nailing a Lionsault! Shelley lands with a hook of the leg. 1.…..2.……
Chris breaks out with yet another kick out. Alex is furious, and picks Chris up via his locks of hair. He kicks Chris in the thigh, and attempts to whip Chris towards the ropes, but Chris counters and elbows Shelley. Chris locks in a front face lock for what seems to be a suplex while laying on the ropes, but Alex kicks Chris in the mid section, and runs to the ropes across the ring. He bounces back, and looks to take Chris out but instead, Chris pulls an arm drag over the ropes, and out towards the mat. Alex lands on his knees, and is holding his left while managing to get back up to a standing position. Chris beats his chest and runs towards Alex, for the suicide dive obviously. He dives through the ropes, and hits Alex right in the head with a flying forearm at full throttle. The crowd chants “Sabin†as both men are down, and out on the mat outside. Chris gets some feeling in him as he crawls to his knee’s, and hands. He shakes his head, and slowly gets back up to his feet. Alex Shelley is crawling away by the time Chris is fully up. He is barely up to his feet, and is pulling on the apron in order to get up. He turns into a chop by Chris, and Chris grabs Alex by the hair. He spins around 360° degrees, and tosses Alex into the ring. Chris bounces up onto the apron, and pulls back on the top rope. Alex rolls in the ring, and rolls to his feet groggily. He turns around, and Chris is going springboard for another aerial assault. Chris went for a axe handle attack, but instead was hit with a kick to the mid section. Chris seems to have took the kick horridly, as he pleads to the referee for help.
Alex grabs Chris by the hair, and knees him in the forehead. Alex goes for the swinging suplex, but instead Chris hits Alex with a forearm to the rib cage, causing Alex to let go. Chris holds his abdomen in pain, but Alex doesn’t leave the forearm unanswered when he slaps the taste out of Chris’s mouth. Alex hits him with a kick below the belt. Chris falls down to his knees, and nurses the effected area. Alex Shelley back pedals towards the ropes, and bounces off of them. He stops mid-rebound, and turns around. He lifts his palm up, and points at it, as the crowd boos to his unserious gesture. Chris is slowly getting back to his feet, as he uses his pain, and converts it to rage. Alex goes about unnoticed of Chris’s recovery. Alex runs at Chris for an attack, but Chris plants him with a spin kick to Alex’s groin. Chris follows up with an enzuiguri to the back of the head, and Alex is left dazed. Chris gets back up, and runs to the ropes in front of Alex. He comes back towards Alex running, and takes Alex out with a falling back dropkick to the shins. Alex rolls forward, and lands on his back. Chris wastes no time, and hops over the ropes. He uses the top rope to springboard into a leg drop! He nails Alex, and covers him with a hook of the leg! 1.…2.…..
No! Alex kicks out once more, and Chris is let down by himself completely. He has a saddened look on his face, as he clutches his hair, and looks up at the referee. The camera pans around the ring showing the cheering crowd, as Chris picks up Alex. He picks him up, and pushes him into a corner before launching him across the ring into another corner across the ring. Chris runs at Alex, and hits him with a Stinger Splash! Chris takes a second to breathe after coming off Alex. He then picks Alex up by the legs, and sets him up at the top turnbuckle. Chris climbs the second turnbuckle, and sets up for the superplex, but Alex knocks Chris’s hands away, and grabs a hold of Chris. He leaps through the air, and towards the mat with Chris, hitting an Atomic Drop from the second rope! The crowd goes wild, as “Murder City†chants start up. Alex has a boost of momentum, as he runs to the ropes. He bounces off the ropes literally, for a cross body but Chris catches him. Alex thinks fast; grabbing Chris’s arm, and hurricanranna’s him down. Alex managed to lock in a arm bar in the midst of this, and then transition into a modified crossface. Chris goes into an panic fast, as he manages to push himself upwards. He cant use both his arms to escape, as one his secured behind Alex. Chris still pushes himself to the limit, and risks straining a tendon, but he manages to pull a few feet towards the ropes. He lunges his arm out, and grabs the bottom rope in relief!
The referee counts down Alex, as he still applies the hold. Alex lets go in frustration, as he curses at the referee. Chris turns over on his back, and breathes heavily. Alex gets up, and picks Chris up by the arms. He positions himself correctly, and body slams Chris Sabin to his back. Alex Shelley walks to the nearest turnbuckle, and flips off the a group of fans cheering Sabin on. He climbs the turnbuckle, and is facing the crowd, as Chris rolls onto his feet. Alex’s intentions are bad, as he looks for the moonsault. Chris managed to creep to his feet, as he pushes Alex off balance, and Alex lands painfully on the turnbuckle. The worst is yet to occur as he ends up in the Tree Of Woe position, in which he is suspended backwards, and upside down. Chris holds his neck in pain, and points up. He runs to the ropes, and runs at Alex Shelley before hitting him with the hesitation dropkick! Alex is out of it, as Chris picks him up by the back. He sets him up once more sitting in the top rope. Chris scoops him up, and prepares for a blast from the past, as he hoists Shelley up on his back, and positions himself in the middle of the ring. He hits his old signature move known as the Iconoclasm. Alex Shelley is yelling in pain, as Chris covers Alex! 1.….2...3-
Alex gets a hand up, as the crowd boos. Chris neglects the recovering Alex, and argues with the referee from a seated position. He tells him that it was a three count, but the referee tells him other wise. Chris himself, flips off the referee, and some upset fans toss beverages into the ring. Chris Sabin picks up Alex Shelley, and locks in a front face lock. He lifts Alex, and nails a suplex, as the crowd starts firing up once more. He doesn’t let go, and nails another. Chris picks Alex up for a third, but Shelley spins over Chris, and clips him in the back of the knees. Chris is onto his knees, as Alex starts to imprint his forearm into the forehead of Chris. He grind Chris with it, as Chris tries to push Alex away. The referee sees the illegal maneuver, and tries to approach Alex from behind, but is very hesitant. Chris shoves Alex back, and Alex knocks down the referee. Chris Sabin tends to the referee, as Alex takes advantage, and kicks Chris in the back of the head. He picks Sabin up, and gets him onto his shoulders. He positions for the Shellshock, as he is about to end the match. Alex nails the Shellshock finisher, and keeps the hook of Alex’s leg.
Alex notices the knocked down referee, as he attempts to revive him. Alex gives up, and rolls outside, and shoves some cameramen, and staff members off their chairs, and picks up a steel chair. He slides into the ring, and tosses his chair down. He picks up Chris Sabin once more, and bad mouths him in the ears. He runs towards the corner for the Sliced Bread #2! Alex is mid air, when Chris keeps a hold of the top rope, and Alex lands onto his knees. Alex picks up the still unused chair, and stalks Chris from behind. Chris Sabin turns around as Alex swings the chair. Chris rolled to the side, and got on his feet. Alex stepped towards Chris, but Chris takes advantage of the chair which is very close to Alex’s face by dropkick it into Shelley’s cranium! The crowd is wild as the referee begins gaining his senses. The chair is back down as Alex is stunned, and stumbling to the ropes. Chris kicks the chair out of the ring, and hoists up Alex in the fireman carry position. Chris manages Alex, into Cradle Shock position. Chris Sabin nails his respective finisher, and hooks Alex’s leg. The referee is slow to crawl over to Chris, but Alex is out of his mind frame giving the referee enough time to make the count.1.….2.….3!
Result: Chris Sabin pins Alex Shelley
