SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) -- A 17-year-old girl was arrested for filing a false police report after investigators said she falsified her own abduction to her family last week.
Christina Almanza, 17, provided voicemails and text messages to her family indicating that she was in grave danger, police said. She stated that, among other details, she was being held against her will with other female friends inside a basement.
Almanza even indicated that someone might have been killed.
As a result of the information, the Solano County Sheriff’s Department began a wide-reaching investigation into her disappearance on Thursday. Officials also issued a statewide Amber Alert.
Suisun City Police Chief Ed Dadisho said Almanza was questioned and admitted to have made up the story in an effort to get her family’s attention.
Police said Almanza told them she had no idea it would have gone as far as it did. She was only seeking sympathy from her family.
Almanza was issued a notice to appear and was released to her parents. Two other subjects were also held, questioned and released.
