A 14-year-old Indianapolis Public Schools student was arrested Thursday after police said he assaulted a teacher.
An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to IPS school #110, Julian D Coleman Academy, around 12:40 p.m. regarding the incident.According to the police report, the school’s social studies teacher was monitoring students in the cafeteria and telling them to comply with the school’s dress codes. The report stated the 14-year-old student was not following the dress code and was advised by the teacher to remove his hooded sweatshirt before entering the cafeteria.
The document stated the student was not compliant, so the teacher blocked the student from entering the lunch room. Police said that is when the student hit the teacher in the chest using his fists. The teacher reported the hits were forceful enough to cause his head to snap back. The student was taken into custody and preliminarily charged with battery with injury. He was transported to the Indianapolis Juvenile Correctional Facility.
