    No idea. In Rocky V, we saw the end of Rocky's career and him losing his entire fortune (albeit in some incredibly forced way, but I digress). I don't think fans would have digested hs death as well. I disagree with Avildsen. The studios didn't "ruin" the film by having Rocky survive.
