But that is actually what makes it good because he is doing within the context of a b-movie/horror movie which makes it far more interesting than just someone doing a basic film about a guy complaining about fear of commitment and so on.

Mulholland Drive is a good start with Lynch for me because while it is challenging often confusing experience it is still one of his most cinematically beautiful movies and at least at the start you get the foundations of a plot you can follow, not to metion that it is masterpiece. Agree that...

You should watch Danny Boyle's debut Shallow Grave also black comedy with a great cast. 28 Days was awesome very impressive Trainspotting is a favourite of mine. Lynch wise you should watch Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man, Wild at Heart, Mulholland Drive and the Straight Story to start with...

Kubrick for me is one of those classic when he is good he is very good and when's he bad he really goes off on one directors. Full Metal, Clockwork and Dr Stangelove great, The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut terrible and 2001 overrated. Spielberg's best two films are Jaws and ET. He is best...

You forgot Jackie Brown that is his other great film in my mind. Didn't like Kill Bill, still need to see IB and True Romance is only decent at best.

Don't get the Taratino love. He did one good film and two classics and then just did paradies referencing the films he used to watch but forgetting to provide us with a story or characters. Basically every person in a modern QT film talks the same and its just boring. Death Proof was awful IMO.

It was just called Ghost and was very good too. Not so keen on his Oliver Twist. The others you should really see are Knife in the Water (his debut), The Tennant and Frantic.

Have you seen Chinatown its a total masterpiece. Also thought his recent film Carnage was better than many gave it credit for. What other Polanski films do you like?

    Favourite Directors?

Nice list. I am a big fan of both Nolan and Aronofsky and as I said before Lynch is a legend. Kubrick I found to be more inconsistant. When he was on his game he did some true masterpieces such as A Clock Work Orange, Dr Strange Love and Full Metal Jacket, however there were some duds as well...

Ok I will say Mars Attacks then lol. Have you seen Dark Shadows yet? That got a bit of a critical kicking. Have been a Burton fans over the years, but recently he has become lazy and inconsistant. Doubt he will ever repeat the greatness of Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Beetle Juice etc.
