Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

Suits liking making money from other suits. News at eleven. Sounds like a circle jerk. :zayn

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

I was the one laying out the facts. Here's the facts again for you: First wrestling promotion since WCW to sell 200 thousand PPV buys in 20 years not named WWE. First wrestling promotion since WCW to sell out a 20 thousand seat venue (and regularly selling out 10 thousand seaters) not named WWE...

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

Nah, many people disagreed with the WCW comparison, but trying to completely discredit AEW is.

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

In markets where they directly compete, AEW is outpacing WWE by a 5-1 margin on ticket sales, but this is where we get off. If you only want to see WWE succeed, that's your prerogative. We're done here. :wedone

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

You can't use the metric of putting WWF out of business. That's just a stupid metric to use. If AEW is outselling WWE ticket sales, and drawing huge PPV buys, and selling out 10 thousand seat arenas that no one since WWE or WCW has done in 20 years, that means they're coming to the dance. WCW...

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

Again, no one cares that WWE is better at swindling suits. The point is AEW at the consumer level is matching or outdrawing WWE in many avenues. As for being in the red, I know this has been explained to you before, but that's because he sunk last year's profits into the video game. They did...

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

It's crazy to me because TNA in 2006-2009 felt like it had all the pieces AEW does now, but it couldn't get over that hump AEW has in 2 years. Sometimes the adage that things happen at the right time or however that saying goes is honestly just true I guess. Because as much as I love AEW now...

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

I love AEW and it’s my current favorite promotion, but thank you. It’ll be a minute before I could consider it better than WCW was during its hottest peak. It’s honestly getting close to be equal. AEW feels very 1996 waiting to hitting that 1997 nitro boost.

Also, as long as tv exists, it cares about who’s watching. Selling advertising is still a network’s top priority.

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

Nobody cares about whether or not Vince McMahon cares or not, although you guys are fooling yourselves if you think he doesn’t. This is a fan medium. I don’t care if Vince makes a billion dollars off princes. I care if there’s a legit global number 2 that can make a great product, sell PPVs so...

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

Ted didn't run WCW because he was a wise enough man to know it wasn't in his wheel house. He just wanted to see it thrive on his network.
  12. Kross Rhodes

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

Ted adored pro wrestling. He believed he owed his empire to it. He literally had to be couped out of his power in own company to remove WCW from the books.
  13. Kross Rhodes

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

AEW is coming close, but WCW in 1998 made like $250 million in profit. That's after whatever they paid their huge roster for the year. In 1999, the year this is comparing AEW to WCW, WCW did a show at the Georgia Dome in over 5 million homes and 38 thousand in attendance. I love AEW, but...
  14. Kross Rhodes

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

Because they're competing for the actual consumer's dollar. AEW is the first company since WCW to do serious PPV and live attendance money. WWE is great at swindling business types for billion dollar deals, but when it comes to the fans, AEW is knocking right on their doorsteps.
  15. Kross Rhodes

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

:nowords They don't have to do as well as WWE to be a really profitable number 2 competitor. Doing a million dollar gate is a seriously huge deal even if Saudi wants to throw dumb money at WWE for a glorified house show.
  16. Kross Rhodes

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

Sure, but that doesn't mean anything. The only AEW could be TNA drawing 90 thousand eyeballs on the weekly TV. WWE is the name of the game because they've been doing this for 50 years and continue to draw money to spite their face. WCW was the only company other them to do this kind of...

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

People are too caught up in the label. Say next WWE if that makes the analogy work for you.
  18. Kross Rhodes

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

Yes, being the only company in the history of professional wrestling to compete with and for a brief period do better than WWE is in insult.
  19. Kross Rhodes

Too Soon to Call AEW the New WCW?

First AEW became the first major promotion since WCW to generate over 200 thousand PPV buys that wasn't WWE and now the first company since WCW not WWE to draw 20,000 fans and a million dollar gate. They now have two mainstream television shows with one soon debuting for the TBS superstation...
