I'm not one to pull for the underdog by default, but I am rooting for JMU and Tulane in response to all of the hate they're getting from the talking heads, With 12 spots int he playoffs, we have room for a majority of conference champions and I'm happy to see that two of them are from smaller conferences that face an uphill battle to get noticed by the nationwide press. Any argument that involves a team being the 12th best, is one implicitly states that this team is not the best and thus, doesn't need to be in a tournament to declare an undisputed champion. Please note that I did not say that this team couldn't win it if they were in the playoffs; I said that they don't need to be in.
Any great team from the Group of 5 that gets 11 wins can count on having star players and coaches bought out. I think reasonable people can say, "let them have a shot this year; let them make the money from this big payday game" if they can do that once, knowing how few will be back. If they can do it fairly consistently despite losing star players and coaches, it's pretty hard to make the case that such a program hasn't earned the right to the big payday and the national attention.
