HULAMANIA IS DEAD, BUT THE REVIEWS LIVE ON, BROTHER.

WWF World Champion: Hulk Hogan-23/1/84
WWF Intercontinental Champion: Honky Tonk Man-13/6/87
WWF Tag Team Champions: Strike Force-7/11/87

WWF SATURDAY'S NIGHT MAIN EVENT
JANUARY 2ND, 1988
CAPITAL CENTRE
LANDOVER, MD

Promos-
-Jake is happy it's 1988, my man as it's a new year and a fresh start for him. Fuji and Sika are invited to his NYE Party so he can change their future with the DDT
-Jimmy and Hammer calls Koko a birdbrain
-STRIKE FORCE BEWARE
-Slick and the Russians are going to roll some heads.
-Bobby says last time Andre was made to leave the arena, but this time he's giving his place to Andre. Bundymania is upon us
-Hulkamania is for real now and always, and he's going to go through that stinky giant to prove Bundymania is dead and Hulkamania lives forever.

Vince and Jesse run down the card in classic form, and my goodness have i missed these two together.

Mean Gene-
-Hogan is doing jumping jacks COVERED in baby oil like you've never seen before. Dude is glowing wet. Anyway, he repeats his earlier promo.
images

Mean Gene-
-Slick and his Russians cut a very 80's Russian praise promo that's covering zero new ground, so whatever.

Mean Gene-
- Strike Force are proud of each other and being the champs. Martel promises this will be their year as they strike with force and go all the way.
-Tito knows his heart and Rick's heart, and they're going to bring the FORCE.

Match#1 Strike Force (c) vs The Bolsheviks w/Slick (WWF World Tag Team Championships-2/3 Falls Match)
The boys attack at a rapid pace with takedowns and strikes from every way they can hit, and it's such a fantastic thing to see. The Russians suck as we saw last year by being fat and lazy, so the boys are pretty much doing all the work to get it to not suck. Nik isolates Tito with a closeline and we get a boring control seg from his end, but Tito's selling kicks ass once more as he leans into every single bump and chin lock thrown his way. Martel gets the hot tag and goes insane on them as he's somehow even cooler than before. He gets Boris in the Crab to win the first fall. We come back to the Russians back in control on Rick this time, and it's pretty much the same stuff as the Tito work from before. Tito has a sick hot tag lighting these dorks up with the amazing dropkicks and forearms he can muster. Nik gets the cane and tries to hit Tito, but he ducks and Boris is killed. Tito gets rid of Nik and then makes the pin to go 2-0 and keep the titles. YEAH MAN UP
**1/2

Mean Gene-
-Fuji has a giant sandwich and jar of mustard. He covers it as he says this is dinner for Sika before he eats Damien later. He shoves into Sika's mouth for another all time visual.

Mean Gene-
-Jake says that doesn't concern him at all as they need to think about the DDT. He's not walking up and slapping him and telling him to take his best shot, no, he's going to sneak up and take it anyway he can. He's going to shove Fuji into the mustard.

Match#2 Jake Roberts vs Sika w/Mr Fuji
Sadly only three minutes of a proper sicko match, but a toooon of fun no matter. Jake targets the arm to keep him at a distance so he can throw punches and not die, but Sika is a monster and gets free and murders him with a sweet backdrop. He scratches at his back and does cool wildman offence, and Jake takes a beating and sells his ass off as Sika wears him down with a nerve hold. Jake finally mounts a comeback with the sweet knee to the face and unloads punches on him. Sika tries a charge but misses, and Jake quickly rolls him up to win.
**1/4

Post match, Jake gets rid of Sika, AND HE HITS FUJI WITH THE DDT. FUCK YES. He drops Damien onto his dead body until Sika saves him.

In the back, Gene is with Heenan, Bundy, and Andre. Heenan says Andre will OFFICIALLY be in Bundy's corner, because he can't risk his health. He says these are the only two men to defeat him, and Bundy says Hulkamania is dead. Bundy says Hogan took advantage of Heenan, but he won't do it to him, and he could never do it to Andre. Andre slaps Gene on the back and nearly crushes him as he leaves.

They replay Hogan attacking Heenan a few months ago.

Mean Gene-
In the back, Hogan cuts an all time cocaine promo you NEED to see

Match#3 Hulk Hogan (c) vs King Kong Bundy w/Andre the Giant (WWF Worlds Heavyweight Championship)
Same opening stuff as always as Hogan runs through him like a hot knife through butter, and Bundy takes some massive bumps for a human built like him. Hogan turns into Okada as he works the arm and maintains wrist control as he twists and turns it as hard as he can, and Bundy screams in pain as Hogan beats it worse and worse. Bundy finally has to yank at the hair to drag him down and then does arm work of his own for a while. Good mean stuff, but not the sick monster work he should be doing against his old foe. Hogan fights out with an ugly slam that doesn't kill Bundy right away, and Bundy is able to stay in the fight. He tries to hit the Avalanche but the ref is killed instead. He gets taken away on a stretcher and replaced with Hebner. Bundy takes back over for a boring control seg working the head and neck for a while, and Hogan does some fine selling. Hogan finally Hulks Up and wins with the Legdrop.
**1/2

Andre gets on the apron and Hogan dares him to get in and fight. Andre actually drops down and seems to leave with Bundy, BUT HE COMES BACK IN AND GRABS HIM BY THE NECK AND HEADBUTTS HIM IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD AND CHOKES HIM OUT WITH HIS ISNANE HANDS, AND HOGAN IS DYING AS ANDRE CHOKES HIM HARDER AND HARDER. The Bulldogs run down and try to get him free, but Andre keeps choking him. He lets go and slams their heads together and throws them out of the ring, and goes right back to strangling Hogan. JYD, Jake and Strike Force now run down and punch at Andre to get him to let go, but he keeps at it. HACKSAW RUNS DOWN NOW AND HITS HIM ACROSS THE BACK WITH THE 2X4 AND ANDRE STANDS RIGHT UP AND STARES HIM DOWN, AND HACKSAW RUNS FOR IT. The rest of the faces finally get Hogan out of there and carry him to the back. What an angle.

Jesse-
-He's got Hammer and Jimmy with him. They trade bird jokes about Koko, and then praise each other.
-Hammer calls out Beefcake for being a fruitcake and says he's going to hammer him one day soon.

Mean Gene-
-Koko sings a ton and calls them featherweights. Brutus has been teaching him how to clip some wings, and he might just do that tonight.

Match#4 Koko B Ware vs Greg Valentine w/Jimmy Hart
YES. Hammer hot shots him right away and beats his face with the elbows over and over as he's not fucking around, and Koko is fighting like hell to have a chance against him. Hammer cuts him off with a gross knee to the ribs and stays on the attack, and Koko's selling and bumping are fantastic as hell. Hammer gets more and more violent as he's been given new life again. Brutus comes out now to cheer on Koko, and our hero makes a sweet comeback with tons of rollups and nearfalls and puts Hammer on the backfoot for the first time. The ref makes Brutus leave in an actual bullshit call given he didn't do anything wrong. We come back to Hammer forearming Koko in the jaw time and time again, and the kid is just being murdered for fun at this point. Koko FINALLY gets him on the top rope as he throws him down and makes a sick comeback once more with amazing punches and dropkicks, and puts this fuck to the sword. Hammer cuts him off once more when he drops him onto his knee and he locks in the Figure Four and poor Koko has to tap out. What a match.
***

Hammer stays on the attack, but Brutus runs down and scares him away. He gets Jimmy and tries to cuts his hair, but Hart manages to get free and runs for it.

Mean Gene-

In the back, Gene interviews Bobby Heenan and Andre the Giant. Andre said it felt so good to choke him, and he'd like to do it again and again. Bobby says Andre was choking the WWF Title away from Hulk Hogan, and it will be a new year for Andre the Giant, Bobby Heenan, and The Heenan Family. He says there will be a new WWF Champion, and says he's going to make Andre the Giant more money this year than he could ever imagine. He says he's got a deal in the works that will make them BOTH more money than anyone else in wrestling, because that's what it's all about. OH FUCK. Andre chokes Gene to end it

In the back, Jesse can't stop laughing at Hogan being attacked, and he only wishes it was a title match. Gene says Hogan was going to need a breathing device, but he's breathing on his own right at this moment. Jesse says he can finally not have to hear his jagger and see him pose.

Vince, Gene and Jesse thank the fans for watching. Happy New Years.

First two shows of the year are recaps, so we move on to something INSANE

The Mega Powers w/Miss Elizabeth vs The Hart Foundation & Honky Tonk Man w/Jimmy Hart & Peggy Sue (5/1)
Hogan makes mincemeat of Anvil to start and even drags him by the beard to the corner, and Savage jumps and reigns down a wild beating as he's even more amped up in 88. The other two get in and we get some killer exchanges between Randy and Bret as they're pure magic. Hogan and Bret fight for the first time ever, and it's short but still very promising if it had ever happened. Randy is isolated after the numbers gang up on him, and we get a very fun control seg lead by Bret attacking the body for a brief time. Randy eventually gets free and tags in Hogan, and the big man murders them all. He boots HTM in the face and beats him with the Legdrop.
**1/2

Post match, the Powers pose in a cool moment.

WWF Superstars of Wrestling
January 9th, 1988
Tampa, FL

Match#1 The Islanders w/Bobby Heenan vs Lanny Poffo & Jerry Gray

Bobby has an invisible dog leash with him. AMAZING. The fellas start their year off with a 3 minute killer squash of a couple of dork. Sick brutal offence as is the norm, and jobbers dying. The Bulldogs have a cut in all sad and whatnot as they're worried about Matilda. DK demands that Tunney get the dog back. Tama is now biting people on top of being a speedball of fury, so i love him even more. Haku wins with a Superkick to the jaw.
**

Craig on the stage-
-Jack Tunney is the guest this week as he's promised to take action to find the dog. He asks Bobby and the Islanders to come up here so he can tell them face to face the actions he's about to take. Bobby warns him not to do something he's going to regret, so be careful. Jack suspends them until the whereabouts of the dog are know. Heenan freaks out and blames the flea ridden mutt for causing this, and his lawyers are going to take care of this. This will not happen. Jack repeats its happening as Bobby loses his mind some more.

Match#2 Jake Roberts vs Wellington Wilkins
Vince can't stop laughing at the jobbers name. Short but very good Jake work like always when he gets shorted for time. Bruno suspects the dog will show up very soon, and Jesse accuses him of being in on it. DDT ends it.
*3/4

Post match, Wilkins meets Damien.

Craig-
-MSG hype for the 25th
-OMG vs Muraco. Hogan and Bam vs DiBiase & Virgil.
-Hacksaw walks on and says he knocks things over with his 2x4 and wherever he goes, it goes. He's bringing it to MSG and putting some cracks in with Harley Race's face. HOOOOOO. The folks in the USA are sick and tired of Race not looking them in the eyes and being a jerk, and he's going. to make him pay for it.

Match#3 Dino Bravo w/Frenchy Martin vs Scott Casey
Well, it took 3 shows for a horrible bastard to show up, so i call that a win. Bad power work from this bum as everything he does looks terribly weak and bad, and the jobber looks worse having to sell for it. Dino wins with his bad Backdrop suplex.
1/2*

Mean Gene-
-He hypes up the Boston card tonight.
-Valentine/Beefer. Jake/DiBiase. Strike Force/HF.
-Rick Rude walk on as Gene says he's confident he can succeed where others have failed against HULK HOGAN.
-Rude lives his life doing what he wants when he wants, and if he wants to do a strip tease when he wins a slammy, he's going to do it no matter how much Hogan hates it. HE'S GOING TO BEAT HIM HALF TO DEATH AND DO A STRIP TEASE AROUND HIS BODY. HULKAMANICS WON'T BE ABLE TO STAND IT, BUT THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT, IF HE DOESN'T LIKE IT, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT
-Holy shit.

Match#4 Sam Houston vs Terry Gibbs
Oh, i forgot about him. Davis has a cut in promising to wait for him, and i really hope he doesn't do that. Fine jobber fight as Gibbs gets actual offence as a big brusier beating this doofus up, and looks really good in the process. Sam is a fine basic boring pro wrestler, but he's outshined and outgunned here. He wins with a bad looking Bulldog.
3/4*

Stage interview-
- Ted DiBiase is the guest.
-He says he called Hogan a fool who would regret not taking his offer to buy the world title, and he told them he's not a man who doesn't get what he wants. He buys what he wants when he wants, and he wants the WWF title. So in saying that, he's got a man who will deliver him the world title a man whose coming out here with Bobby Heenan, ANDRE THE GIANT. They come out to the stage and Bobby shakes his hand and thanks him for letting him buy things he never dreamt of owning with the wealth he now has. He's not a fool like Hogan, he's not letting this opportunity pass him by. They're going to do what they were always going to do by beating him. Ted asks Andre if he will deliver him the title, and Andre promises to deliver it to him AND destroy Hogan. AMAZING ANGLE

At the booth Jesse asks if this means Andre has been sold to DiBiase, and Vince thinks that's the case.

Match#5 Butch Reed w/Slick vs Silvi Afi
Short kickass squash from Butch as he plays the hits against this dope. Match is a backdrop for more amazing commentary debating what was done earlier by Ted, and Jesse says this is genius as Andre can get Hogan in the ring for a match quicker than Ted can, and he's never going to break a sweat getting the title. Flying Lariat does it.
*3/4

Match#6 Demolition w/Mr Fuji vs Jim Evans & Mike Richards

Jesse says they look like the Runners in the Running Man, and demands Vince congratulate him for his string of hits. Demo beat the living fuck out of these goons right away with the amazing clubs and sledges to the back and neck. I truly feel like this a moment we can see they've gone from great to fucking incredible, and what comes next is going to be even better. Smash does some gross body blows and wreaks a kids neck with a nasty chin lock, and he's a true motherfucker tonight. One of the dorks loses their heads for the loss.
**

Mean Gene-
-Ted walks on and makes fun of Gene having money stuck in his pocket from the last 20 years, and he's got new bills as he gets Virgil to flash the cash
-Andre belongs to HIM, and he will get the title when he wants. Hogan should defend his title well and hard until it's time for him to take it.
-Jake is a man he likes because he's a snake and he enjoys things like that, but he's going to humiliate him and send Virgil after Damien if he tries anything.
-Ted leaves and tells Gene to stay classy as Gene says he has a lot of dollar bills himself.

Fantastic episode.

WWF BOSTON GARDENS-9/1

Jake Roberts vs Ted DiBiase w/Virgil
Ted shows he's game as he goes for Jake's arm to control, but Jake is actually faster and does some of his own to send Ted onto his ass. They trade a test of strength and Jake initially loses it out, but he uses his height to twist and turn the tide on Ted and forces him to scramble to the floor. Jake keeps trying the DDT and making Ted fight like hell to avoid it for as long as he can. Virgil distracts him for Ted to drop him with an elbow to the nose, and Ted gets super violent in revenge with nasty strikes and biting at the face. Truly the best he's looked thus far as the facade slips and we see he's actually a scumbag monster. Jake is AMAZING fighting from underneath as he never stops throwing any shot he can to stay alive, and he's slowly wearing Ted down as a result. He nails a jawbreaker and punches at his face with those incredible looking punches, and Ted is finally made to eat some well deserved shit. Virgil distracts him by going after Damien, and Ted knees Jake into the corner and rolls him up with the tights to steal it.
**3/4

Post match, Jake ties him in the ropes and hits Virgil with Damien. Ted gets free and runs like a coward. Sucks these two won't feud until 1990.

Before the match starts, Bobby gets the mic and says Rude is an arm wrestling champion and Hogan should face him. Hogan refuses to engage, sadly.

Hulk Hogan (c) vs Rick Rude w/Bobby Heenan (WWF Worlds Heavyweight Championship)
The only meeting between them as it's been long rumoured that Hogan disliked and possibly feared Rick, and this match pissed him off to the point he compared him to the Tasmanian Devil, and they never met again. Not sure how true it is, but there you go. Rude drops to the mat and challenges him to the arm wrestling, and Hogan accepts for a sick battle of strength. Rude nearly gets him down and wrenches the hell out of Hogan's python, but Hogan hulks up and smashes his hand off the mat. He keeps beating the shit out of him as he's all fired up, and Rude shows off his amazing bumping skill as he pinballs himself over the joint for Hulkster. Hogan even decks Bobby for the hell of it as 88 Hogan is a massive bastard. Rude slows it down and works the arm for a while, and it's fine work for a while. Hogan tries to get it going, but Rude is able to cut him off with some sledges to the back and face. He gets more violent with some knees to the skull, AND HE GETS A WOODEN CHAIR AND HITS HOGAN ON THE TOP OF THE HEAD WITH THE SEAT OF IT IN AN ABSOLUTE BRUTAL MOMENT. He locks in a sleeper and strangles the life out of him in mean as hell fashion, and Hogan's selling is tremendous as he's near death the entire time. Rude lets him go as Hogan begins to fight out, and Rude gets the backbreaker on and stupidly drops him as he thinks he won. He climbs to the top and hits a fist drop, but Hogan finally Hulks Up and runs through him as only he can. He beats him with the Legdrop right across the face to leave me wanting a hell of a lot more, and now sad knowing i'll never get it.
***

NEVERMIND THAT SHIT, TED AND VIRGIL SNEAK BEHIND HIM AND ATTACK. HOGAN FIGHTS OFF VIRGIL AND BEATS HIM UP. TED GETS THE TITLES AND SMACKS HOGAN IN THE BACK WITH IT, AND THEN ACROSS THE FACE TO BUST HIM WIDE OPEN. YESSSS. VIRGIL DROPS CASH ON HOGAN AND TED DROPS THE TITLE ON HIS CHEST AND LEAVES HIM DEAD. Refs come out and assist Hogan to the back as he's a bloody mess unable to stand on his own, and the crowd is pissed. Perfection.

Greg Valentine w/Jimmy Hart vs Brutus Beefcake
Brutus has a paper megaphone he uses with the mic to drown out Jimmy Hart, and gets the fans more riled up than before. They fight and it's sick as hell as Brutus is throwing great looking shots to the head and body, and Hammer bumps his ass off for his old pal. Brutus stays on it and looks really good a pissed off babyface throwing serious shots. Hammer manages to slip in a punch to the face to drop him to the mat, and he goes to work with the elbows and neck work. He's a slow mean bastard, and Brutus takes a sweet beating. He mounts a comeback and shows more fire exacting revenge choking and punching the shit out of him. They fight on the outside and Jimmy distracts Brutus, which allows Hammer to slide in and win via countout.
**1/2

Strike Force (c) vs The Hart Foundation w/Jimmy Hart (WWF World Tag Team Championships)

Wooooo. The champs do their thing to start and we get some fantastic HF bumping and stooging as the champs run at a million miles an hour and leave them scrambling to get anything. Bret is singled out as the punching bag for a while and it's so good as his selling is getting even better. Anvil tries to help out, but he gets smoked as well. BRET PULLS THE ROPE DOWN AS MARTEL RUNS TOWARDS IT AND HE FALLS TO THE HARDWOOD FLOOR. His ribs are wreaked as a result, and the fellas attack him in brutal fashion as now they've got a big target on top of being mad about before. HF wrap the tag rope around his neck, and Anvil pulls him by the legs to choke him in an insane moment. They beat the body even worse as Anvil breaks out some gross body blows, and Rick is dying before our eyes as he gets bashed. Tito actually snaps and gets in illegally and has to be taken out, and Ricky is attacked worse as the ref turns his back to do it. Martel keeps getting closer and closer, AND HE FINALLY BACKDROPS ANVIL TO THE FLOOR AND TAGS IN TITO FOR THE MOTHER OF HOT TAGS AS HE BEATS THE HOLY SHIT OUT OF THEM WITH ALL THE FIRE HE HAS. HE NAILS THE FOREARM AND THEN GETS THE FIGURE FOUR ON, BUT ANVIL GETS THE MEGAPHONE AND CRACKS HIM IN THE CHEST FOR THE DQ. SON OF A BITCH.

WWF Wrestling Challenge
January 10th, 1988
Ft. Myers, FL

Match#1 The British Bulldogs vs Steve Lombardi & Terry Gibbs

The Dogs are mad about the missing mutt, so they get 3 minutes against the two best jobbers they can find. Great mean work as DK finally seems ok again, and Davey is a proper muclehead freak throwing everyone around. Rocket Launcher ends it.
**

We go to an interview with Craig and Tunney. Basically a shorter version of the Superstars angle where he suspends them until the dog comes back.

Match#2 Ron Bass vs Omar Atlas
Yess he's finally back. Only two minutes this go round, but still a killer bully beating in the best ways as the kid is beaten pillar to post. He wins with the Pedigree sans the arms.
*3/4

Post match, he wraps Betsy around the kids neck.

Mean Gene-
-Frenchy and Dino are.
-Frenchy praises Dino as the best athlete he's ever seen and a future world champion.
-Dino says nothing is going to stop him from going to the very top, no matter the human force they might have.

Match#3 Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Oliver Humperdink vs Dusty Wolfe
Bammer also gets 2 minutes to play and does a very good job of using his fat man offence as best he can. He's still a few years away from his peak, but the signs are there, thankfully. He wins with the Slingshot Splash.
*1/2

Mean Gene-
-THE RUMBLE ROYAL IS COMING ON THE 24TH. YESSSSSSSSS (Gene messes the title up, so i must respect it)
-Gene runs down the rules as he explains there will be 20 men and he's in shock it's going to happen
-The Bees walk on and also call it the Rumble Royal, so maybe they changed the name later on.
-They don't know the rules or how to really win, but they're excited to be in it.

Match#4 The Hart Foundation & Danny Davis w/Jimmy Hart vs Brady Boone, Wellington Wilkins, & Jack Towers
Yuck, man. HF are so above this jerk in every way possible, so it's more than time to move on. Still, awesome work from them as they get 2 minutes as well to show off and beat some nerds up, and it's enough to work. Hart Attack gets the win.
*3/4

They replay Andre's attack on SNME.

They then replay Ted buying Andre.

Match#5 Sam Houston vs Jerry Gray
Awful match, but once again a perfect backdrop for Gorilla and Bobby going at it. Gorilla calls him a hypocrite and liar for selling out after talking about his dream being the manger of the worlds champion for the family, and now he's throwing it away. Bobby says he's here to clean up the sport and not done by a long shot. Gorilla groans and doesn't believe a word he's saying. Bobby says no one dictates to him ever again as he's ruling the roost now. Bad Bulldog gets Sam a win.
1/3*

Match#6 Greg Valentine w/Jimmy Hart vs Pete Sanchez

ALSO Two minutes as it's a theme of the night. Hammer unloads a billon elbows and knees as he's a mean surly jerk, and the kid is deadmeat. Figure Four ends it.
*1/2

Match#7 Koko B Ware vs Rick Renslow

Koko gets a minute in a bullshit call after the entire show. STILL, he's a speedball of awesomeness and gets us on the board with a fun sprint against this big doofus. Ghostbuster ends it
*

Mean Gene-
-Ricky is here
-He says he didn't have the title for long, but his son was a nice addition to the family. NO
-He says all the people have been wondering what's going on with the Dragon, and hiis wrestling career means more because of the kid. So, he needs to breath fire so he can provide for him. He's seeing all these new big faces and he's ready for a fight.
-He's got his eyes on a title.

WWF Superstars of Wrestling
January 16th, 1988
Huntsville, AL

To open the show, Jesse says he has BIG news tonight.

Match#1 Strike Force vs Iron Mike Sharpe & Dusty Wolfe
Mike is here to kick the year off the right way. 3 minutes of tremendous SF super babyface work with a white hot crowd going nuts as they reign down hell on the jobber super team. They work arms and fire off dropkicks at will, and it's the best stuff. Figure Four gets the win.
**

WWF UPDATE-
-Craig says Jesse was telling the truth as this is earth shattering quality
-HULK HOGAN HAS AGREED TO DEFEND HIS TITLE AGAINST ANDRE THE GIANT ONCE MORE. IT WILL TAKE PLACE ON LIVE TV ON FEBRUARY THE 5TH
-They show the footage of Mania 3 with Andre's near fall, and the controversy that arose from it.
-They then show the attack on SNME.
-Craig talks about Ted buying Andre last week, and i'm pretty sure WWF is outright saying he bought an actual human in maybe the most Vince McMahon booking i can think of.
-Craig says we will learn more of the card over the following weeks.

Match#2 Greg Valentine w/Jimmy Hart vs Van Van Horse
Sick and violent work from our Hammer man. Loads of body blows to mix it up as he's an all timer in that regard, and i love it. Jesse asks if Andre is actually going to give Ted the title, and Vince says Tunney and the WWF will never allow it to happen. We get a cut in from fans saying Beefer should be allowed to cut all the hair he wants. Hammer wins with the Figure Four
**

Post match, Hammer holds it on for a while as Jesse says Greg won quicker with it than Tito did before. Please give me another feud.

Match#3 Bam Bam Bigelow w/Oliver Humperdink vs Tiger Chung Lee
Bammer meets a big dude for the first time in a squash match, and he runs right through him with his speed and sweet fan man offence. Slingshot ends it in maybe 90 seconds
*

Match#4 Ron Bass vs Rex King
Another short but very fun beating from the Outlaw. Scott Casey has a cut in saying Texas isn't proud of Bass'. I'm proud of him, dude. Bass wins with his Pedigree
*
Post match, he attacks him with Betsy.

Mean Gene-
Gene runs down the next MSG card, and it will be Hogan & Bammer vs Ted & Andre. YES
-They walk on and Hogan points at the camera and shouts that Rude is out of league, man. They can't respond man when they can't move, when he was laying there when Ted beat him up like a bounty hunter. I COULDN'T FEEL MY LEGS OR MY ARMS. SNAPS WERE COVERING MY BODY AND I COULDN'T CARE ABOUT THE GAMES TED WAS PLAYING. THE LIGHTS WERE ON, BUT MR HOGAN WASN'T AT HOME. HE CALLED THE REAL BRAIN HUMPERDINK TO GIVE HIM SOME REVENGE AND HELP WITH BAMMER.
-Dink says they've only got to warrior about psychical combat because he's going to protect the outside.
-Bammer promises to have Hogan's back.
-COCAINE RULES

They replay Islanders/Dogs feud over the last few weeks.

Match#5 The British Bulldogs vs. Brian Costello & Gino Carabello
The fellas gets 3 minutes to show anger and fire after the last few weeks, so it's a blast and then some watching them beat the dog shit out of these fat gross looking jobbers. Davey breaks out his amazing Running Powerslam to kill one of them, and then keeps beating them up because fuck yeah. We see Islanders and Bobby standing on the stage as DK wins with his insane backdrop suplex off the top.
**

Stage interview-
-Craig is with them and says they're suspended, but Bobby says they've been reinstated as of now.
-He tells the Dogs to go and talk to Tunney so they can find the doggy, or come up here and get your tails kicked.
-The dogs back off and go to the back as Bobby says Tunney knows where the Dog is and now they've been cleared of this manner. Bobby says that dog doesn't concern him if it has ticks or mange, they can live happily ever after. One more thing, no one makes a fool of him and his men. Tama is playing with dog food during the entire thing to make it even funnier and scummier.

Match#6 Don Muraco vs Dave Wagner
Jesse plugs the WWF Magazine for an article about Don and Graham's friendship and what the future holds for them, and i actually forgot they were a thing. This isn't a good squash as Don is mostly lazy in between some good looking strikes, so it falls in the middle. Don wins with the Tombstone.
*

BAD NEWS BROWN IS COMING TO THE WWF. FORGET ABOUT THE GOOD NEWS BECAUSE THE BAD NEW IS HERE. FUCK YEAH, LOVE ME SOME BAD NEWS.

Match#7 Ted DiBiase w/Virgil vs Brady Boone
Ted beats the piss out of this dork with some great punches and power moves, and the crowd wants him dead like never before. Ted really beats the brakes off Boone and beats him with his flying back elbow off the top.
**

Mean Gene-
-The Bulldogs walk on and say Tunney has told them the dog is sick and in bad shape, and now they're holding Heenan responsible and they're coming for revenge.

NEXT WEEK A SPECIAL INTERVIEW WITH ANDRE AND DIBIASE,

WWF Wrestling Challenge
January 17th, 1988
Nashville, TN

Match#1 Jake Roberts vs Gino Carobello

Heenan gets angrier and angrier as Gorilla needles him about the dog, and he keeps shouting he's been cleared. Fun 2 minutes of Jake doing Jake work on the arms and body in between throwing sweet punches to the head. DDT gives him a win.
*3/4

WWF Update-
-Craig covers Dino Bravo being a stongman, and he says he's going to try and break a powerlifting record at the Royal Rumble.
-Dino and Frenchy speak French for their entire promo.
-Jimmy Hart has the Glamour Girls back with him to face the Jumping Bomb Angels, and he's ready to get some gold baby.

Match#2 Demolition w/Mr Fuji vs Omar Atlas & Rex King
Demo geta FOUR minutes to obliterate and maul the life out of these kids, and i couldn't be more in love with this. A million gross looking clubs and sledges as Demo get more and more brutal with each attack they throw out. Smash throws one of them to the floor, and Ax hurls him back into the ropes to try and get him back in and the poor kid bounces off and lands on the apron. They batter them for a long while and then take a head home with them to win.
**

Mean Gene-
-Gene runs down the RUMBLE ROYAL CARD
-Ricky Steamboat vs Rick Rude
-Islanders vs Young Stallions in a 2/3 falls match
-Rumble Royal
-Jumping Bomb Angels vs Glamour Girls
-Bass cracks his whip and says he loves this because there's no friends or tag teams out there, its just one man fighting to the death. All you bad boys out there better kiss babies and shake hands because they're going to meet a man who has Betsy that wants to beat them.

Match#3 Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Joe Mirto
Race has a cut in saying he's the real king and he's going to beat Hacksaw to death. Standard fun Hacksaw outing of him doing his thing for a minute or so. 3 Point ends it
*

Match#4 Rick Rude w/Bobby Heenan vs Van Van Horne
Rude is pissed and angry as he takes it out on the jobber with some truly awesome strikes, and even a dropkick right to the chest. Rude Awakening ends it.
*3/4

Craig-
-Reed, OMG and Slick are the guests.
-Slick hates Canada as he feels it is a Godforsaken place, but they signed a contract and they will take care of business.
-Reed says they're going to beat some people and raise a whole lot of the thing he won't say on TV, but you get his drift.

Match#5 The Young Stallions vs The Conquistadors
They get 3 minutes to do some mostly solid offence as best they can given how limited they both are. Powerslam ends it
*

Stage Interview
-Ted and Andre are the guests.
-Ted talks about Andre being robbed a year ago at Mania, and how he could have ended Hogan's life last week. But he didn't because he wants the same thing he does, and that's the worlds title. He told the people he always gets what he wants, and he wants THAT title. He's had people on their knees begging and barking like dogs, and they all have a price. Hogan thought he would be the exception to that rule, but by hook and crook he's getting what he wants. Andre is that hook and he knows he's going to beat Hogan. Andre says he's going to squeeze Hogan over and over until the breath comes out of him, and he has millions of reasons to be happy now. He's going to win the title and present it to Ted DiBiase. Ted shouts he will be the world champion.
-This is so fucking perfect.

Match#6 The Ultimate Warrior vs Brian Costello
Beyond rough as hell as Warrior slowly walks around beating the kid up without the insane antics that make him ok to sit through for the most part. Bobby says he's going to find out all he can about this ham and egger. Heh. Warrior wins with his bad Press Slam/Splash combo.

Match#7Butch Reed, the One Man Gang & The Bolsheviks vs The Killer Bees, Lanny Poffo, & Rick Hunter
Far too many bad wrestlers to make this good despite the two great ones here. 747 ends my pain.

WWF Superstars of Wrestling
January 23rd, 1988
Huntsville, AL

File is only 27 minutes this week, sadly.

Match#1 Randy Savage w/Miss Elizabeth vs Barry Horowitz
This wasn't on the file, but i found it on Moonsoon Classic because MY GOD. Randy kicks all the ass in the world as he's fired up more than ever (wonder why!!!) and gives Barry a little before beating him half to death for daring to fight him. Sherri has a cut in calling Elizabeth a fake trying to steal HTM from her. RANDY HITS A GROSS RUNNING KNEE TO THE BACK TO SEND BARRY HEADFIRST TO THE FLOOR AND THEN KILLS HIM WITH THE AXE HANDLE. He keeps kicking the shit out of him until he finally ends the best TV squash thus far with the Elbow and a foot on the chest.
**1/2

Mean Gene-
-The Dogs are the guests and talk about Matilda being unable to eat or anything, and they want revenge.

Match#2 Ken Patera & Billy Jack Haynes vs. Iron Mike Sharpe & Joe Mirto
EWWWWWW BROTHER. Thankfully both these nerds are gone this year because any more and i might puke. Really whatever as they're doing lazy choking and bad striking, and it's not cool at all. BJH wins with his Lame Nelson.
1/2*

Mean Gene-
-Gene finally calls it "THE ROYAL RUMBLE" to ruin a great running bit.
-Don Muraco walks on and he's very excited to be in such a dangerous match, and the luck of the draw is going to decide a lot as he could meet a monster late, or a bum like Davis to start.
-He talks about how he doubts the tag teams will stay together with all that money on the line.
-Never underestimate Don Muraco, brutha.

Match#3 The Hart Foundation & Danny Davis w/Jimmy Hart vs Sam Houston, Rex King & Van Van Horne
Oh come on, stop sticking my dudes with this dweeb. Still, really good whenever they get to knock some heads and do amazing HF offence in between Davis being a complete and utter nothing. Bret breaks out his incredible piledriver to really fuck one of these geeks up, and i can't wait until he gets uncorked again. HF sneak in and kill Sam with the Hart Attack and give Davis the pin to end it.
**

We see footage of Brutus and Hammer fighting on SNME.

Craig on the Stage-
-Ted and Andre make their way out to said stage, and i can't help but notice that Andre needs to lean on Ted now.
-Ted talks about proving everyone has a price for him, and how they wouldn't believe him when he said he would buy the title. Hogan was a fool and everyone thought it was over and he failed, but he always gets what he wants and he got an even better thing when he BOUGHT Andre. on February 5th he will get what he wants when Andre beats him and the WWF title will finally be his.
-Andre says Ted opened a bag and showed him the money and boy oh boy was he happy. This time he will squeeze and squeeze because no one will come in and save him this time, and the title will not be his, no it will be Ted DiBiase's.
-Ted laughs and asks where all the hulkamanics will be when he's no longer the champ. They won't be sending cards or money, they'll be patting him on the back saying bad luck, fella.

Match#4 Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Steve Lombardi
Hell yeah, man. Hacksaw is a ball of fire hitting hard as he can and shouting HOOOO a lot as he's maybe the most popular man in the world at this point. Lombardi takes a tremendous beating as only he can, and really gives Hacksaw the best showing possible. Hacksaw wins with the 3 Point Stance.
**

THERE'S ONLY BAD NEWS COMING FOR THE WWF.

Send your get well cards to Matilda.

Match#5 Harley Race, Rick Rude & Hercules w/Bobby Heenan vs. Lanny Poffo, Jerry Allen & Scott Casey
Jesse says mothers were trying to trade their babies for Rude when he was born because he was perfect. Good squash from the Family outside of Herc being a turd, but that's a given as we know. Rude is getting better and better as the weeks go on as he's violent and cool as hell. Vince says the Feb 5th show will have three title matches and he hopes to have news on this next week. Herc wins with his backbreaker.
*3/4

Mean Gene-
-Harley Race is ready to beat everyone he meets and he's not afraid of anyone. He's coming in dead last and fresh as possible, and he likes those odds. This is Royal Rumble, and he's the only royal in the WWF. Bobby always gets what he wants, and if he doesn't, Harley will.

NEXT WEEK BAD NEWS BROWN

Match#1 Honky Tonk Man w/Jimmy Hart & Peggy Sue vs Jerry Allen

"Peggy Sue looks like a reject from 1951"-Gorilla. Very fine work from HTM as he's throwing some great hard shots that make some sweet noises when they hit. Elizabeth has a cut in saying Peggy has nothing to worry about. HTM keeps kicking butt in between dancing and stooging, and it's fun stuff. SRR ends it.
*3/4

WWF Update-
-Craig covers the Matilda kidnapping and return.

Match#2 Strike Force vs Dave Wagner & Tiger Chung Lee
Three minutes, holy shit yes. Tito lights Tiger up with his amazing dropkicks and armdrags, and the big oaf is thrown all over the place. Demo have a cut in saying SF are running from them because they know they're going to get crippled and hear their bones break. YES. SF keeps being insanely good and cool as they run through these dorks with so many cool moves and all dat fire. Forearm ends the fun.
**

Mean Gene-
-Hooooooooooo. Hacksaw says you can't get too excited as you might be one of the first four in there, so he's going to back into a corner and fire off live rounds when people get too close to him. Friend or foe, he doesn't care. The only time he's getting out of the corner is to fight Race, tough guy.
-1988 will be the year of Bam Bam Bigelow.

Match#3 Ted DiBiase w/Virgil vs David Stoudemire
Bobby hates the jobbers name and demands he change it. The jobber dropkicks Ted and knocks the money out of his hands, so Ted beats the everloving shit out of him for it because you don't fuck with his money. Another super stiff and mean beating happens as Ted is getting better and more awesome every week. He wins with the back elbow.
**

Match#4 Brutus Beefcake vs Dusty Wolfe

Two minutes for Bruti as he's not trying as hard on the B show, so it's actually a bad squash for him after weeks of fun ones. Hart has a cut in demanding they ban Brutus. I agree. Sleeper gets him a win.
1/2*

Post match, Brutus cuts the kids hair.

Craig on the Stage-
-Ron Bass is our guest.
-He promises that Betsy won't hurt him tonight, but she's going to be like a wild tornado soon enough when she gets free to hurt some people. He wraps the rope around Craig's neck and chokes him as he screams he wants Ricky, Hogan or Muraco to be in this spot so he can take them to their knees. He drags Craig back up and tells him to stay off his knees. He shouts he's coming for everyone.

Match#5 The Islanders w/Bobby Heenan vs Brady Boone & Eric Cooper
Woooo, the fellas do their thing for 3 minutes in a goddamn violent, violent outing as they beat the fucking hell out of the kids. A true and proper squash. Big Splash ends the fun.
**

Match#6 Don Muraco vs Iron Mike Sharpe
Don does his thing and it's fine and whatnot, but our hero screams and takes a killer beating to really make it work. Plus, it reminds us of how he should have been the top star. Tombstone gets a win.
*

Match#7 Dino Bravo w/Frenchy Martin vs WD Wellington
Bad stuff as is the norm. The important thing is Gorilla saying Dino is going to attempt to break a bench press record at the Rumble when he tries ti lift 700 pounds. Sidewalk Slam ends this dumperster fire.
1/7*

Mean Gene-
-Slick brings on OMG as he hypes him up for the Rumble. He says he wishes he could beat everyone up and clean house, but he has three other men and he needs them to be ok. He's going to bring all 4 of them in and make the victory sign at the end.

WWF ROYAL RUMBLE
JANUARY 24TH, 1988
COOPS COLISEUM
HAMILTON, ONTARIO, CANADIA

Can't tell you how excited i am for the Rumble now being here. It's one of my favourite long running PPV's with some all time classics happening on them. So lets dance, folks

Vince and Jesse are on the call.

Match#1 Rick Rude vs Ricky Steamboat
They trade big punches and chops to start as Ricky smokes him when he skins the cat, so Rude turns it into a power game with a test of strength. Ricky looks beat but he flips him out with his armdrag, and Jesse says he has to use his speed to stand a chance in this battle. He beats the heck out of the arms as he twists and turns them and really flings Rude around with them. He gets viscous on them as he knees the elbow joins and wrists with all his weight. Rude fights out and doesn't sell them because it's not 1992, sadly. (Can't wait to cover that as well) His punches also look like trash after some great ones to start, so sadly this him being exposed as probably not quite ready yet. Ricky cuts him off again and smacks his knees into Rude's shoulders this time as he wrenches the arm back in a truly grotesque manner. Rude gets free once more and rams his knees into Ricky's back to send him to the floor, and Dragon's back is destroyed as he gets slammed down. Rick gets him back in and works the back and neck, and Rick'y selling kicks ass as he fights like death to get free from the attack. Rude works a chin lock for a while and it's not the mean looking, but Ricky's selling and fight makes it worth a damn. Steamer gets free and cracks Rude's face off the buckles and chops the his face in. They start trading rollups for a while and neither can win. Ricky gets free agin and goes for his crossbody, but Rude pulls Hebner in front and he's dead. Rude gets the backbreaker on, but Hebner wakes up and DQ's Rude.
**

Post match, Rude screams at Hebner for DQ him.

On the stage, Gene and Jesse are standing by for the benchpress attempt. Jesse is Dino's spotter for this as he's an actual strong man and gets safety and won't let Dino get hurt. Dino and Frenchy come out now and speak French before we get to the attempt. Jesse explains what Dino is going to do with powder and gloves, and you can hear a pin drop as the crowd is dead for all of this. Dino finally talks some shit to get them to care, and they boo him a ton now. Dino does his warmup of 415 and easily lifts it a few times. He moves up to 500 and does that with ease as well in a legit impressive moment. He does it again and we see Jesse is maybe helping him lift it. Dino gets mad at the crowd and keeps stalling for time before he lifts some more off his chest. We get more of the same as he lifts over 600 pounds. They finally load the full 715 on the bar after a good 10 minutes of this, but then Dino storms off as the fans boo him. Frenchy gets him to come back for it, and he finally does it as Jesse lends a hand getting it off his chest. Thank God that's over.

Match#2 The Glamour Girls (c) w/Jimmy Hart vs The Jumping Bomb Angel's (WWF Women's Tag Team Championships-2/3 Falls)
Vince calls Jesse out on cheating for Dino, and Jesse loses it and calls Vince an idiot who doesn't understand how lifting works. Vince also doesn't know the name of the Angels and calls them "Pink" and "Red" just to further why this is not going to work in the 80's in America. Some fun exchanges to start as the Angels work on the legs and do some fancy stretches and wishbones, and Jesse loves it a ton. The American ladies work a more brutal style with slams and hard strikes, so it's a fun battle of what will win out. One of the champs hits an Alley Oop to win the first fall. Holy shit. The Angels now double team the champs and beat the crap out of them. One of the Angels flips out of a slam and gets a rollup to even it up. The Angels stay on the attack and work heel in a shocker given Hart is at ringside, but i dig the change up. Martin takes a great beating as they get mean with her and lay in some shots to the guts. She fights back and hits a sick Tiger Suplex and stomps on a neck when she gets back up! They keep beating the shit out of each other, and in a different time and country this would be fondly looked back on as it deserves. THE ANGELS HIT A FUCKING DOUBLE DROPKICK OFF TWO CORNERS AND WIN THE TITLES. FUCK YEAH MAN.
**3/4

Vince and Jesse show the footage of the near count at WrestleMania III. Jesse again argues it's a 3 count, while Vince says it might have been the referee lifting himself up from the mat. Jesse deadpans it took him a year to come up with that one. They then cover Ted's attempts to buy the title and the rejection leading to Ted buying Andre.

We go to the ring for the contract signing. Andre and Ted are already there, and Hogan gets the big intro. Andre no sells the entire thing before he finally gives a smirk like he couldn't give a single fucking shit about Hogan, and it's PERFECT. Jesse says if anything, Andre looks like the champion while Hogan looks like the challenger right now. Tunney says both mens reps have read over the contract and it's time to sign it. Hogan sits first as Andre stands in the corner bouncing off the ropes as he stares down Hogan. Gene pleads with him to please sit down as Andre slowly walks over as Jesse says Ted bought him for a couple of bucks here and there. Andre finally sits at Ted grabs the mic and asks if Hogan is now nervous as he realise he should have made the deal. Maybe he sees this as a career ending contract as he KNOWS that Andre beat him a year ago. Andre will have all the money in the bank, Ted will have the title and Hogan will be history. Andre reads over small parts of the contact and Ted says it's just an incentive bonus. Andre keeps reading over it as Hogan gets more and more angry about it. Ted says he can take as long as he wants given the fact he was robbed a year ago, so shut up and let him go. Vince now gets mad and demands Andre sign it or leave. Andre finally signs it as Ted tells him to put his offical stamp of approval on it. Andre stands up as Ted tells him to do it, AND HOGAN SWINGS AT TED, BUT ANDRE GRABS HOGAN BY THE BACK OF THE HEAD AND SMACKS HIS FACE OFF THE TABLE AND WALKS OFF. OH MY GOD THIS IS AMAZING. Hogan is all shook up in the ring as Andre and the boys are escorted out by the cops. This is sooooooo amazing.

Vince and Jesse run down the rules for the Rumble and some of the card.

Match#3 THE 1988 WWF ROYAL RUMBLE
-Bret Hart is #1
-Tito Santana is #2
-HOLY SHIT
-I should note that neither gets an intro as Fink introduces them already in the ring.
-Incredible fight between them as Bret goes right for the fight and beats him in the corner, and Tito mounts a pissed off comeback kicking the shit out of him with some amazing punches of his own right to the face.
-Bret fights back and takes the beating to him focusing on the body with kicks and knees.

-Jake and Anvil are at it as well, and that rocks a ton

-Yuck
-He has a fine fight with Sam as this feud will never die.
-Jake has Race in the ropes and punches him back and forth like a punching bag.
-Bret and Race are working together to fight Jim.
-#10 is Boris Zukoff
-He sucks and does a lazy chinlock on Houston
-HF and Davis are attacking Jake
-Race finally punches Boris in the face as it's every man for themselves.
-Jesse praises Bret for still being in there
-#11 is Don Muraco
-Wait, Nik follows him out and tries to get in, but Don decks him and takes his spot in the ring.
-Jake & Jim lift and push Boris out of the ring to the floor
-Nik argues with the refs as Jesse says it was a mistake
-#12 is Nikolia Volkoff
-Don lariats Harley Race out of the ring
-Race tries to get back in, so refs have to get him to leave.
-Sam saves his brother Jake from being dumped out by Anvil

-He's old and bad, so of course he gets to throw Anvil out of the match.

-#17 is Dino Bravo
-Son of a bitch
-He fights Jim for the worst thing ever.

-HOOOOOOOOOOOO

**3/4

Super fun debut match as it's got some great moment in between some crumby ones as every Rumble gives us. A good mix with more good than bad and some sick moments. Can't wait for next year.

Craig on the Stage-
-Hogan is there looking worse for wear after the attack. Hogan says he was sent a message and had a dagger stuck in his ribs, but this adds more fuel to the fire, jack. Andre as aligned with DiBiase and none of his Hulkamaniacs would ever sign him with him. He couldn't break that table, and he won't break him on the 5th. YOU CAN'T DO IT. Hogan says he was cheapshotted but that's fuel to the fire and building his confidence. They'll need to beat every Hulkamaniac in here, and they can't do it.

Match#4 The Islanders vs The Young Stallions (2/3 Falls Match)
Uh, that's odd to stay the least. Vince buries the Bravo segment as boring and bad, and Jesse gets upset at him for it. The Islanders kick the shit out of these pretty boy nerds with their amazing offence, and YS are fine warm bodies for them to hit. Haku really lays in his shots to Powers and makes him eat a ton of shit for a long while. and it rocks even if it should be Roma getting the beating. Roma has an atrocious hot tag showing no fire in between botching a ton of stuff. Fucking rat face. Tama thankfully throws him to the floor and hurts his leg, and he gets counted out for the first fall.

We come back from the break as Vince says YS are in the back getting looked at, and he hopes they come back. We move on to seeing footage of Andre's attack on Hogan. We then go to the stage with the heel trio standing by with Craig. Ted says they did more than make a statement, they painted a picture of Hulk Hogan's future being flat on his back on the 5th. This is the beginning of the end of Hulkamania just as he's been saying since he got here. Andre is going to put him down in the middle of the ring, and he will get what he wants. Andre says he's undefeated and he's still undefeated and on the 5th he will make history as he will destroy Hulkamania. GIANTAMANIA WILL BE BORN AND WE WILL HAVE A NEW WORLDS CHAMPION WHEN HE GIVES THE TITLE TO MR DIBIASE.

Sadly, Roma and Powers make their way back for the next fall. Roma's leg is taped up to the knee and he's forced to fight Tama for his troubles, and he gets mauled and kicked half to death. His leg selling is actually pretty good for a goof. Powers gets in for a fun hot tag with his sweet jobber offence as he dropkicks and slams them a lot. Haku punches him in the throat to cut him off, and they beat him down for a while and it's good, but it's clearly filling in time for the rest of the TV airing. After a long time, Roma finally gets back in with his bad wheel and is promptly murdered. Tama splashes the leg and Haku locks in a Half Crab to win.
*1/4

Jesse and Vince talk about the Rumble being amazing, and Jesse says it's all about the luck of the draw and coming in late is the answer in his mind. They then argue about Bravo's lift once more, and yeah Jesse cheated to help his dweeby pal. They then talk about the attack on Hogan, and how neither can wait to see the title match on the 5th. Jesse plugs the future show as Vince says goodnight
