Pretty speculative, but basically said people in both companies are expecting it and her contract is up in a few months

I am coping it's tactics but also fair play if not

People will try to spin it negatively but short contracts where you bet on yourself is how you win the free agency game. I'm pro worker and Mariah did everything asked of her. She's not a slave to any company and her run was legendary.

I do think she's less special in the WWE ecosystem due to a lot of similar looking ladies and the roster being a lot more competitive. Still think she will thrive anywhere though.

Hope she stays but I support the way she's done business. This won't be a fumble either.

The story was almost written perfectly for her to be a one season villain in Toni's season 2 of the Timeless TV show tbh, that's makes this more believable than anything lol

Yup. That's true lol.

For real I think we need more short deals . Kind of forces your Booker to use you and can't just sit in your deal. More ppl should do it. More movement is good .

I don't disagree but a counterpoint I can think of is, locking yourself down for a high rate at 5 years might be a lot more appealing in today's climate. The benefits of successful short term deals are usually really obvious and easy to point to though

It really depends for sure. There's absolutely risk involved . I can even help your point : it's blown up in hammerstones face.

Certainly are correct long term is more stable. But I think young wrestlers especially are hurting their own value in an industry you could be fired tomorrow. Aew is different but a 5 year deal is also kind of not worth anything if u can be cut at anytime.

Some good arguments on both sides

Edit : fired or injured

Like as an aside I know I'm a doomer but in like 6 months when this tarrif stuff has been hitting the economy for a minute and shareholders want cuts I'm still scared looking at WWE going on a hiring spree rn. Obv speculative and business could stay thriving , of course. But it's something I think about when I see WWE signing everyone under the sun lately

She definitely had an absolute perfect run to position herself as a top female talent so it makes sense she’s gonna explore the options. If she does go to the E her, Giulia, Steph, Jordyn, &. Zaria can absolutely take over that division r. What an absolute embarrassment of riches for that women’s rosters. I’ll once again say a women’s only weekly would be amazing now.

I always thought Mariah May had the goods in terms of Character so if she were to go WWE and be in NXT she's so confident with herself she would stand out day one when alot of those girls are just figuring out things. It wasn't till AZM had a Match with her that I thought man she can hold her own within the Ring and she took that mindset into AEW. So if she leaves for WWE I have no doubt she'll be fine within their system.

Good for her if she does go to WWE, I think she’ll be fine there with whatever happens imo. I wouldn’t be mad if she stayed put in AEW though but whatever makes her happy is the most important thing.

Mariah May is in a contract year, and those around the wrestling world are expecting her to get paid.
Fightful Select had recently reported that May is in her contract year, and expected to get interest from virtually anywhere she could want to go. Wrestling Observer had noted that people close to her believe WWE has always been the goal, and people in AEW expected her to go to WWE. While there are some that believe that, Fightful has spoken to sources since the start of this being reported who claim she’s being wise and maximizing her leverage and negotiating power.
AEW absolutely hopes to retain Mariah May, from what Fightful Select has been told throughout the entire process.
There was some misinformation spread upon Fightful learning the news, claiming that Mariah to WWE was already something in the works, or effectively a done deal. There were even people inquiring to Fightful about an “internal incoming” list she was on. That list doesn’t exist, and Mariah May is not listed internally for anything as it relates to WWE. The company has an internal roster page that Jeff Cobb has been on for a month, but he’s been without contract during that period. May has a number of months left on her deal, at least.
The biggest surprise among those that we spoke with was the possibility that Mariah May was only on a deal of this length.
Fightful reached out to Mariah May and her management upon the original story, but they didn’t comment

Mariah May potentially leaving AEW is the first departure I’m sad about in a long while

She's still young. Short term deals for someone young is a smart business decision. Wait until you're old before signing those long-ass deals. She's still on the up and up so her next deal would be at a higher rate. Not to mention she signed the last deal then inflation happened.

I'd assume it was a 2 year deal (or 1 with an option that was exercised.

Wherever she performs next she'll be a star.
