As far as I'm concerned, he's already earned his stripes as a legitimate main eventer, but now they're really solidifying his status. He was always pushed as someone who marches to the beat of his own drum, but now it's more pronounced than ever before. He's really coming into his own, and they've been having the commentators focus on it quite a bit too. They've seemingly completely cut him loose as far as mic work goes. It's pretty obvious that they have the utmost confidence in his abilities there. To make a long story short, he looks like a million bucks. I really hope this continues.

I was wondering, since it's been a while since I've been in the mix or read dirt sheets, has there been any coverage on Punk's status backstage? Are they really giving him the ball? It definitely seems that way. Sorry if this is kind of a weak thread, but I'm trying to get back into things here.

Apparently according to himself and reports he is at the point where he can do whatever he wants and no one tries to stop him. Been described at how HBK and Vince were back during 95-97 so yeah pretty much has control over his career at this point. Don't think they went into this went the intent on making Punk this big but rather something that just happened considering the reviews his 1st promo that started all this happened and how much talk it not only got in wrestling but even outside wrestling outlets. So WWE gave him free reign and he pretty much created this with his own effort knocking his chance out the park.

That's pretty incredible if true. I'm super stoked for him; talent-wise he definitely deserves it. I've heard things here and there about Punk being kind of a douche, but there's no way to really be sure. One thing I've heard is that he knows who to talk to and HOW to talk to them, so he "politics" his way into people's good graces, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that as long as he's not maliciously cutting anyone else down in the process.

It's great to see Punk in such a prominent position. That being said, I'm finding that the more he tries to be funny lately the less he is. Thats one thing I always loved about Punk, he could be funny without it being forced. Now it seems forced because he's trying to find his feet as a face. Don't get me wrong, I still love the guy and I'm glad he stayed and is being recognised. I just wish he wouldn't try quite so hard.

Even if he tries a bit too hard and, as a result, isn't up to par with his usual level of funniness, his material is still about ten times better than the majority of the stuff on WWE programming right now. It's a win win for us.

I agree with BreakTheWalls. I definitely think that CM Punk has earned his stripes as a Main Event Wrestler in WWE. He has done so much since his WWE debut on ECW in 2006. Especially this year! This year in 2011, CM Punk has made WWE interesting since the Attitude Era & the early Ruthless Aggression Era. And yes, I'm talking about his outburst on John Cena in June 27, 2011.

Not really seeing him not be less funny lately he is pretty damn funny to me and it doesn't come off as him being forced. Only thing I could point to and say he kinda forced that was when he was doing the throwing up thing at HHH/Nash. Forced is some of the stuff Cena tries to do comedy wise that says stuff that makes you cringe. Far as Punk goes think he is doing a great job of balancing the comedic stuff and the serious stuff during his promos.

And oh yeah as far as the backstage politics I don't think he really played them the way some do. He talked about how he got kind of frowned upon cause he wasn't wearing a suit when he was world champion or when he was heel and he had the great point of it's hard to wear a suit when you got a hobo looking beard, lol. Also talked about how writers and such would always try and pitch stuff for him to say and do and he'd say nope and leave it at that after he got to a certain point in the WWE. So think he uses whatever pull he got to simply just have free reign over what he does and says.
