Rock Open to Wrestling One More Match?

The Associated Press featured an article this afternoon with comments from Dwayne Johnson and John Cena discussing Johnson's return to World Wrestling Entertainment as part of next week's Wrestlemania at this link.


Cena commented on Johnson's return, noting,"I can't tell you how much it plugs our product back in. It's like getting hooked up to defibrillators. It's the one little jump-start we needed."

The idea of Cena vs. Rock down the line was mentioned with Cena noting he'd talk all the trash needed to make it happen.
Johnson, who noted that his return to WWE was his favorite Raw memory ever, didn't deny that returning to the ring was potentially in the cards, stating, "I've never said never. I'm open to it. For years when I was asked that, I kept my emotions very close to my sleeve. I would say, 'No, I don't see myself wrestling a match,' because I didn't want to leave that open too much. I wanted to make sure I was concentrating solely on my goals in acting."

Now that Johnson has had a reasonably successful film career, yes he hasn't been involved in huge hits but his movies make money and he would be paid a lot, he can be a bit more open to opportunities like this. He has proven himself as an actor whereas before if he kept going back to WWE people in the film business wouldn't take him seriously.

If The Rock came back for one more match it would be huge. I remember how huge it was when The Rock returned to form the Rock'n'Sock Connection at WrestleMania. If The Rock faces Cena at WrestleMania that would draw huge.

Would you like to see The Rock wrestle again? Who would you like to see him face (other than Cena)?

1. Not to get into a film debate here, but I think Rock is far from a proven actor, yes he did well at first, but he has been in a lot of flops laterly, plus if you hear him in interviews there does seem to be desire to expend and do more deverse roles. His wrestling career is very much over, like you said he does get paid very well for films, more than he would for wrestling.

2. Yeah he might be open to one more match, but that is in the sense of you never say never, and if Vince made him an unbelieveable offer, The Rock might accept it, but I think it is highly unlikely.

Reasonably successful film career? Uh... well if you count him pandering to the whole Disney audience as successful then yeah it was successful. At least his roles were somewhat good compared to a certain other WWE star who does Nickelodeon...

Rock has done what? 20 films (plus or minus) since he has left WWE. How many of those were good? By my account...

Anyway! As far as him wrestling one more match I would rather see him wrestle in a handful of matches rather than one. Unfortunately we will see Rock/Cena at one point, but in all honesty rather see Rock/CM Punk...

The Rock should do well if he does do one more match. I believe Cena vs Rock would be a good feud and would be on a more personal level and could be an exciting match.

What were people expecting? Atleast he can do comedy, not like Stallone or Arnie.

When I said reasonably successful film career I mean that his films have made money not that he should be an Oscar contender. The majority of the work he has done isn't meant to be critically acclaimed and he found that niche with the Disney films after doing all action to begin with. He is a popular guy that is always going to get roles in the coming years, maybe not as many starring roles but he will have enough work to keep him busy.

But I do think it was more his earier films that did well at the box office, I think the more recent ones have flopped me than hit. There is no doubt he could be a good actor, like deezy said he does have good comic timing, he just needs better parts to display it in.

Now notice that the Disney movies are more successful than his action movies.

You really have too much time on your hands. But fine point well made, but I never said the Disney film was a flop, just that a lot of his recent films have been. Don't forget you sometimes have to factor in if they made their money back, and some of them would have so exspensive to make, in many cases they probably didn't.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says he’s “very open” to wrestling again after returning to World Wrestling Entertainment last month.

The host of WrestleMania XXVII appeared on Piers Morgan Tonight tonight on CNN. Piers Morgan asked Johnson whether he plans on wrestling again.

“I’m open to it,” Johnson said.

Morgan asked, “You are?”

“Very open to it. Sure. I’ve always been open to it,” he replied.

“When I left wrestling seven years ago, at that time, two things happened. I accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish in wrestling and I also wanted to become a good actor. In order to do that, I felt, I needed to concentrate solely and commit myself to acting.”

The approximate 30 minute interview, which was taped two days earlier in New York City, featured Johnson reflecting his life, career and future aspirations. It opened with a discussion of Johnson’s background and his connection to United States President Barack Obama due to both sharing similar backgrounds. A clip of Johnson portraying “The Rock Obama” two years ago on Saturday Night Live aired.

Johnson was asked to comment on running for a political office in the future and he said he could see it happening in the future after his career in entertainment.

The second segment focused on Johnson’s careers in professional wrestling and film. A clip of Johnson’s return promo to WWE aired with Johnson shown watching it.

Johnson reflected on his future aspirations in the third segment. He discussed his family upbringing, repairing his relationship with his father, and setting new goals for himself, such as winning an Academy Award.

So he repeats again that he is very open to wrestling another match. If I was Vince and I saw these interviews I would immediately start talking with The Rock about planning a comeback match. Aim for WM next year and start planning it early so that they can ensure it happens.

I did have a chuckle at the final comment he made about setting a goal of winning an Academy Award. I can't ever see that happening especially since he only gets roles in action or family films.
