It's so different though.
Sure, MIKERAW is right... sadly these bands have defined this decades teenagers and have dominated the scene. However, they really did nothing for the face of music. They're all cookie cutter replicas of each other. Bands like Maiden, Sabbath, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin all made such a huge impact on music because they all did something that no one had done before. They invented their own style of playing which crossed genres, and withstood the test of time.
Till this day if you pop in Dark Side of The Moon, Number of the Beast, Master of Puppets....they're still AMAZING albums that you can say yeah....these were fucking special albums. Everything in the music industry these days has become more of a fashion statement...what band is hot right now...who's their lead singer fucking. It's fashionable and trendy to write lyrics with no substance, no meaning behind them.

For the last time, we all know they didn't do anythign for music. The bands I listed suck,a nd I, and you, and most people with good taste hate them. But for the last time, it isn't about that. It isn't about what's good or bad. If you want to know the best bands of this decade, that's a seperate question, with seperate answers, and we would be naming off great, under appreciated bands.
But you're asking what the bands that define this decade are, and like I said, unfortunately the good music in this decade isn't mainstream, and therefore, wouldn't be revolutionary (because it never got the attention)> The ones that define this decade are the bands that are most popular, like it always has been, and unfortunately, the bands I listed were popular.

And I agreed with you. I was just venting on the sad state of what now defines the current state of music.

three days grace is decent and so is system of a down but they both started in the early to mid nineties.

The majority of their music was done after the millennium and all of the decent stuff after as well.

There are so many bands out there I know really do have the capability to break out and write some incredible tunes. Sadly as long as your played on the radio and can land a tour sponsored by Hot Topic, that's all most bands seem to settle for.

There are some damn good bands there, and alot are alot better than the trash that is considered popular now, which is crap. But how can you say those bands defined the 2000's?
Shinedown, Korn, Lanb of God, Jimmy Eat Word, Killswitch Engage, Machine Head, Disturbed, Saliva, Limp Biskit, In Flames, Children of Bodom, etc, can all produce good music (some I like, some I don't, but it's still better than the mainstream crap that is on),but how can you say they are the bands that the 2000's will be remembered for? lol.
The mainstream media hardly knows those bands at all, and they wouldn't be considred popular. Some of the bands you listed are probably some of the best bands of the 2000's, but I dont think they would be considered as the bands that defined the 2000''s.

Remember, this isnt a thread about what are your favourite bands from the 2000's. If it was, I sure as hell wouldn't list the shit bands I named. I would've listed bands like Rise Against, Rancid, The Offspring, Pennywise, Foo Fighters, Anti Flag, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.
It's about what bands will be considered the prominent bands, and most well known bands from this decade, even if they suck... So list the bands you think will be remembered as thetrademark of the 2000's, even if they suck... Not thebands you like.

Everyone, everywhere - THE BEATLES

Metal - Cream, Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly

Punk - MC5, Stooges, Velvet Underground, The Kinks

Glam Metal - Motley Crue (I know, but every single band copied their model of singles & look)

Grunge - The Pixies, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Mudhoney

Emo - The Smiths, A Flock of Seagulls, At the Drive-In, Jimmy Eat World, Glassjaw, Rocket from the Crypt, Bad Religion

2000's Hard Rock - Jane's Addiction, Korn, Nine Inch Nails

Could Be Influential - The Shins, Silversun Pickups, White Stripes, The Matches, Anti-Flag, HORSE The Band, Mindless Self Indulgence

And there's some things that influence something big in a weird way, like Motown Girl Soul with the Ramones, Corny 80's Rock on most pop-punk bands today, etc.

^I like your lists there... but I dont think Motely Crue would count no offense, cause most of their stuff is from the 90s, though Saints of L.A. was this year

Linkin Park idc what people say but Hybrid Theory is one of the best albums ever imo. And Mindless Self Indulgence for sure and I know this is out but Wierd Al I mean he revolutionized mocking imo.

Another band that I would put up there in this decade would have to be Evanescence. I think they've had some pretty good work in the past decade, and would be up there in terms of inspiring some down the line.

...lol @ Children Of Bodom. >_>

Yeah, I'm not really of fan of them or Machine Head, but I didn't really feel like taking them out. >_>
