Now before i started.. people have notice i have been ripping shit into this guy and why..

Simple he's too old to be a world champion.. does anybody remember how slumped wwe went with hogan as champ in 2002...despite the poorly handed feud he was in.. it was like wcw/tna style...

now don't get me wrong Sting Prime was in 80's- early 90's

just to name a couple good matches of his
Flair vs sting Clash 1
Sting Vs MUTA GAB 89
Steiners Vs Luger/Sting Superbrawl 1 (one of the best wcw tag team matches of all time)
91 wargames
92 wargames
Sting Vs Cactus Jack Beach blast 92
Sting Vs Vader GAB 92
Sting Vs Vader starrcade 93
sting vs Vader slammboree 94

sting/vader was my favourite rival of his...

but take in note of this match i list late 80's - early 90's...

I say my disliking for sting has start pby 98/99, when i started to notice his workrate was getting really lazy.. but he was facing good wrestlers on PPV
Flair, regal (there match ***1/2 tho), hogan, Savage, bret hart, booker t, scott steiner, Jarrett, Nash...

In tna: Jarrett, abyss, Daniels, angle, + others.. Now for myself i was very dissappintted in the Sting/Angle i felt angle would of been the wrestler dish out a **** for sting....

But it seems ever since Flair got him over in the 80's he was full of potential and then in the Mid 90's He just got lazy and works that way for now on...

He may be call himself a Icon, But Icon no matter how old they are can dish out excellent performance anytime of the year I.e. HBK and Undertaker......

(i highly doubt if Vince ever got him, He was never excell to Main event status like he did in WCW/TNA.. he wouldnt be able to hand the workrate, if he hasn't done anything speical in TNA, then why would you think he would in WWE.)

so post your sting thoughts here?

Sting was great back in the late 80's - early-mid 90's. But he had good opponents, and Sting's one of those guys who needs a good opponent to have a great match, although he's not someone (and has never been someone) who needs to be carried.

The real issue with Sting was when WCW brought him back and screwed up the Starrcade finish in '97 (???) He lost a heap of credibility in that match, and wasn't in the best shape either. He just didn't have that same drive that he did 5-10 years earlier, and hasn't really got it back.

The guy definitely still tries, but he just doesn't have the ability that he once had, and he's yet to get out of the 90's ring style.

I still think that RIGHT NOW he is the right guy to be holding the TNA title. Maybe a Kurt or AJ soon, but I still believe that Sting has got the name value to be the champion of TNA.

Right ability and age debates aside, so many people in the wrestling community know of Sting from he's 80's/90's work with NWA/WCW. Obviously he's not as good as he once was, but he still has name value. Biggest name never to work for the E perhaps.

So in terms of name value, he's the guy to hold the title right now.

Yeah I agree with Kizza. Sting may not be the guy he was back in the 80s but he brings much needed star power to the TNA brand. Remember Sting turns 50 this year and he is still going strong. I mean he is still putting on 4 star matches in 2009 it is amazing. At the moment he is the right man to hold the title.

I don't think the guy's been given the caliber of match he needs. I mean, yeah they put him against Angle, but Kurt's been a bit of a bore since his move to TNA as well :/. His greatest moment was when he shoved his own wife to the floor. Sting hasn't had a high quality opponent since before Hogan at Starrcade.

You say he's still putting on good matches in 2009, but you can only list 3 matches in 2 years.
