Reports from the past month indicate that WWE chairman Vince McMahon disliked "The Wrestler" after receiving his private screening from director Darren Aronofsky.

In an interview on NPR Radio's "Fresh Air" show that aired yesterday, director Darren Aronofsky said the response that he received from McMahon was actually a positive one.

Aronofsky says McMahon saw the film and called both lead actor Mickey Rourke and himself to say he was "really, really touched by it." Aronofsky said in the interview that McMahon told them he "really felt the movie was special."

Also in the interview, Aronofsky was asked why he focused on broken down wrestlers instead of the more public image of superstar wrestlers, such as in WWE.

"It came out of the economic approach of the film," Aronofsky said. "When we first started, we were thinking a more traditional route of a 20-something, 30-year-old movie star doing this, but it became very clearly that working with WWE at the beginning would not have given the creative control I would need."

Wait, so you mean the news sites lied when they said Vince hated the film last month, jeez, what a shock! [/sarcasm]

I wouldn't discredit the news site just yet.

It could be that Vince changed his tune when he realized there was money to be made off "The Wrestler"

I just can not see how Vince would like a movie that depicted wrestlers as steroid abusers who don't take care of their kids and die a young death.

Most likely Vince did hate it, Rourke won a bunch of awards, Vince realized that having Rourke at Mania would help the buyrates, then Vince all of a sudden liked it.

^What you said sounds logical, but think about it. When they published the report of how Vince supposedly hated it, they diidn't have any quotes from an interview. They just said "he was said to hate the movie, and hate Rourke" or something like that. The fact that this time there's actually a quote saying he likes it, leads me to believe he does, because there was no actual quote of him saying he hated it.

I guess I'm just skeptical, especially when it comes to the business world. Some people will say and do anything to make a few extra bucks.

I think the websites just especulated and put the pieces together, I mean, the movie was destined to be hated by Vince Mcmahon, there wasn't any comments from Vince praising the movie, unlike Ric Flair and Piper who went public about loving the movie, and then WWE blocked MyNetwork from advertising the movie on SD.

no doubt that would normally be correct, but your forgetting one minor detail. This intreview he says Vince called to say he liked it after his private screening....which was long before the award nominations. It appears the only thing Vince changed his mind on was to cross promote it.

The problem with some of you people is that you believe them sites way to damn much, hell they could say brett hart and randy savage were wrestling the mania main event and you would eat it all up, most of the time they tell us things like so and so should win, and this should happen. Everyone should realize them sites more times then not are either full of shit or overexaggerate storys (yeah I spelled that wrong)

But they actually said that he said words that eh didn't say. If they had just said "Vince is said to not like the movie", fine, but instead they said stuff like "Vince was apparently telling people the movie sucked, and apparently said he hated Mickey Rourke". Putting words in Vince's mouth is worse than just speculating.

No, not many people actually believe a word they say. Here on iwf, alot of people, if not all, know that half the shit they say is just speculation and guesswork.
The reason I made this thread wasn't because I believed the original report, because I actually didn't, but I made this just to point out how stupid they are, and it's great to see those news sites beso wrong.
