I saw this topic on another forum as I was just browsing it out of curiosity and I thought it was a pretty damn good topic. I'm not doing a Ninja*Star and copying the thread word-for-word, rather; asking the same question in my own.

Do you think the WWE would benefit from a new 'Mega Star'. Someone where they begin a massive winning streak, keeping it low-key until a fair way in and start talking about it to make the fans notice. In other words, do you think the WWE should make a new Goldberg-like character. A face monster who can dominate some of the superstars. They have the resources to pick someone who has the 'look' and work from there. The thing is, this will most likely get either love/hate replies because people either love/hate Goldberg.

I think the WWE could benefit from it as the young kids would most likely love it since they're (unfortunately) aiming for the kids and they can see their 'superhero' kick the asses of the Edges and Ortons and all the 'villains'.

We already have one. His name is John Cena.

Nah, really, I don't think that this would work in this day and age. Something like Goldberg's streak (189-0?) would just be totally stupid in this day and age. Not saying it wouldn't be cool to see, but I don't think that people would get behind it.

Plus, they would just be beating the same old opponents week after week after week. They did alright with Kozlov for example, but many people felt that it was a too bigger jump to one week be against Wang Yang and then next week or so be attacking Jeff Hardy & Triple H, just because he wanted competition.

So really, no, I don't think that WWE need to bring in a monster superstar to have a Goldberg-esque streak because the fans I don't think would get behind it, it will grow stale very quickly and they would run out of guys to straight job week in week out.

I'm aware of John Cena but I'm thinking as he gets older. Not necessarily right now but in some point in the short-term future?

It all depends. WWE always seems to hand pick Main Eventers early on in their careers nowadays (Orton, Cena, Tista, Kennedy) so it wouldn't be something new to have somebody on their way to the Main Event early-on.

Goldberg-like push: No. On the other hand, if it was a push more akin to that of Brock Lesnar I think it would go over well. But to truly make it work, the guy must be able to appeal to more than just little kids. Get somebody who has a good look and can work a match well and he's big money.

For it to play out perfectly, I think he should have an undefeated streak for a year (let's say he debuts after Summerslam). Then he gets his championship match at the following years Summerslam, still undefeated. Poor monster face loses though, to a monster heel champion thanks to some dirty tactics. Then eventually he gets vengeance and the belt.

Seems far-fetched now, but if Jack Swagger hadn't been rushed to the ECW Championship, they could've done the same with him. One guy who meets the description I listed is DH Smith, plus he has the notability of being a 2nd Generation star (WWE loves them).

Goldberg was tailor-made to be one of those handpicked guys imo. He just has the look and everything.

If DH Smith grew his hair out and got a bit of stubble I think he'd be perfect.

There could be, as I said I wouldn't mind seeing another Umaga type run, where he came in straight away and targeted Ric Flair. That was pretty awesome. After a year or so of starting near the top, he rose and rose, and the more guys he defeated the bigger his name got, and then it accumulated into a title shot in the epic Last Man Standing match at the Royal Rumble.

I actually think this would work a lot better if they entered as a heel before turning on their manager and going face, ala Brock.

I can't see Umaga appealing to the kids though.

Not a guy like Umaga, but a guy with an Umaga like run, or as Pat said, them starting heel as like a slave to their manager, and then eventually breaking loose and going on a run, or continuing the run before loosing to a heel or something after the manager bring in someone to beat them.

Kinda like Abyss & Mitchell.

Well, there are already a bunch of guys like that, such as Atlas Ortiz, Umaga when he debuted, Jack swagger for a while, Vladimir Kozlov, etc, who all started out undefeated, and made to look invincible.
I realise they weren't being groomed as mega stars, but look how much hate they got from the internet just for being a midcarder undefeated.
Could you imagine one as a main eventer? It'd be a mega heel rather than a mega star, becuase nowadays, the fans won't tolerate a guy who comes in undefeated and kicks ass.

The best way is to toss winning streaks out the window and all that stuff, and let the fans tell you who the next megastar is.
But ya, they will need a new one in probably 3-4 years, but an undefeated streak and all that won't work. It'll just turn the fans on him.

Thus why they have to actually be a good worker and start out slowly for it to work. Koslov and Swagger were in their respective title pictures in under 3 months. Umaga's push was booked to perfection, he got the big rub from Flair giving him credibility, then went back to the bottom and worked his way up to Cena.

Isn't it quite obvious that Dibiase and Rhodes will become big starts, the Legacy? Kind of like Evouloution, i reckon both will be champion within the next five years, I wonder what the odds of that will be? Anyways other than that we really need a new debutan, someone who the crowd like and someone with good mike skills.

Gotta agree with you man except unless Cawdy starts to impress I don't see it happening. Debiase on the other hand is starting to look better in the ring. So yea it maybe take a while but these guys will eventually get a push.

I'm talking about a new megastar like Goldberg. Those two can't be dominating monsters because they're heel and the way they'd do it is dirty tactics and using the other.
