Shilo did it to himself. He shouldn't have retaliated by throwing the punch to Zach Davidson, but instead to brush it off like nothing happened.

HOUSTON -- Texans running back Joe Mixon won't be activated from the non-football injury list by Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, making him ineligible to play at least the first four games this season due to an ankle injury.

Mixon, who has an ankle injury, will be moved to the reserve/non-football injury list before Tuesday's deadline.

Mixon, 29, rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024, earning him Pro Bowl honors in his first season with the Texans.

The team took steps to offset Mixon's potential absence this offseason by signing four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb after his seven-year stint with the Cleveland Browns and drafting Woody Marks out of USC in the fourth round of April's NFL draft.

Mixon missing time during the season always appeared to be likely when he started camp on the active/non-football injury list. He also didn't practice during OTAs and minicamp with the team. The last time he participated with no restriction in anything with the Texans that related to a game or practice with media present was Houston's divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Week 5 is when Mixon can potentially return, with the Texans facing the Baltimore Ravens that Sunday. In the meantime, besides Chubb and Marks, the other options to fill in for Mixon are running backs Dameon Pierce, who started training camp on the physically unable to perform list but eventually was activated, and Dare Ogunbowale.

So far, Chubb has been the main running back for Houston's starting offense, with Pierce and Ogunbowale also seeing some action.

The Texans open the season on the road against the Los Angeles Rams.

Las Vegas Raiders starting wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who is entering the final year of his contract, has requested a trade, a source told ESPN.

The Raiders and Meyers have been unable to come to terms on a new deal. Las Vegas, however, has no plans to move on from Meyers, according to a source.

Meyers' contract has a base salary of $10.5 million and a salary cap hit of $14.98 million in 2025. However, Meyers doesn't have any guaranteed money remaining on his three-year, $33 million deal, which he signed in 2023 after four seasons with the New England Patriots.

When Meyers was asked earlier this month whether he would like to remain in Las Vegas for the foreseeable future, he said, "As much as they want me here. That's really all I can say about that one."

Meyers previously expressed his excitement to play with new Raiders quarterback Geno Smith. He called Smith "one of the best" quarterbacks he has played with, citing the 34-year-old's accuracy.

The two players have developed a strong connection over the course of training camp.

Meyers has been a fairly consistent pass catcher since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He has totaled at least 800 yards in four of six seasons.

Meyers' second season with the Raiders was the best of his career. In 15 games last year, Meyers caught 87 passes for a career-best 1,027 yards and four touchdowns with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell as his quarterbacks.

He had three games with 100-plus yards and dropped only one pass on 128 targets. Meyers had 52 catches that resulted in a first down, tied for 18th in the league.

The Las Vegas wide receivers room consists of Meyers, Tre Tucker, and rookies Dont'e Thornton Jr. and Jack Bech. Meyers and Tucker are the only wideouts on the team to have recorded at least 500 yards in a season.

NFL Network first reported the news of Meyers' trade request.

The Commanders and wide receiver Terry McLaurin reached agreement Monday on a three-year contract extension worth up to $96 million that will end his hold-in and get him in uniform for the regular-season opener against the Giants, agents Buddy Baker and Tony Bonagura told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

McLaurin receives a $30 million signing bonus in the deal, sources told ESPN.

McLaurin and the Commanders' front office had been at odds over his value since talks began early this offseason. By getting the deal done now, the Commanders will retain their most consistent offensive player since he arrived as a third-round pick in 2019.

McLaurin, coming off his second Pro Bowl appearance, has surpassed 1,000 yards for five consecutive seasons.

He had hoped that would result in a speedy extension, but that did not come, and McLaurin expressed deep frustration during a 30-minute news conference July 15. He did not report to camp a week later and was fined for missing the first four days -- a total of $200,000. He already had been fined $104,768 for missing the mandatory three-day minicamp in June.

But after reporting, McLaurin was placed on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury the team said had occurred late in the season. He was able to participate in voluntary workouts in the spring before skipping the OTA practice and minicamp. He was activated from the PUP list Aug. 16.

McLaurin requested a trade July 31, but that was not something Washington considered.

According to multiple reports and league sources, the name most mentioned as a guide for McLaurin's desires was Pittsburgh Steelers receiver DK Metcalf. After trading for him this offseason, the Steelers gave Metcalf a four-year deal worth $33 million per year with $60 million guaranteed.

McLaurin's age was an issue for Washington, according to multiple sources. He will turn 31 when the extension begins, an age when receivers typically start to decline. The Commanders are a team that places strong emphasis on analytics. Among the top 24 active receivers with the most guaranteed money, only one, the Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill, was 30 or older upon signing.

Washington also wanted to avoid a precedent of what it saw as overpaying to retain a player, according to team sources, because it has several key players up for costly extensions or new deals next offseason: tackle Laremy Tunsil, linebacker Frankie Luvu, and potentially, corner Marshon Lattimore and receiver Deebo Samuel.

By retaining McLaurin beyond this season, the Commanders give quarterback Jayden Daniels his favorite target when the season begins. The two players developed a strong rapport in camp last season, which carried into 2024, when McLaurin finished with 82 catches for 1,096 yards. His 13 touchdowns was one less than his tally over his previous three years combined.

Daniels posted a Total QBR of 90.6 (out of 100) when targeting McLaurin. Of his 12 passes that gained 30 or more yards by wideouts, six went to McLaurin.
Good to see him finally get paid, though it's only three years. Hopefully if he does good, he gets an extension.

Bengals, Trey Hendrickson agree to a new 1-year deal with a $14M raise

All that huffing and puffing and everyone signed up for more years. I thought for sure Trey would stay out but Micah is asking more Years even though Jerry can Franchise Tag him twice and not have to pay him mega dough right now. Stay out Micah send a message like Emmitt Smith did.

"Blockbuster" trade, lol.

But seriously, I see a lot of Panthers fans upset but come on. Thielen was the oldest WR in the league... LAST year. He's probably not coming back next year (expiring contract). So either get nothing for him but instead a 4th is not bad for a 35 year old WR. The other argument coming from Panthers fans is that he is Bryce's most reliable QB but at some point Bryce is going to have to learn to live without him. He has a nice young WR core to grow alongside now so I don't hate this move at all.

Jerry IS a fool. He couldn't give Parsons an offer he can't refuse and ends up trading him to the Packers. This is one of the reasons why people hate Jerry because he's incompetent and doesn't give a damn about the team. And if he did, the team would be good.
