WWE has been offering long-term contracts to several big starts with clauses that strongly favor the company. WWE has offered Rey Mysterio a 5-year contract and Randy Orton a 10-year deal, where they don't provide many ways out of the contracts for the wrestler, but are filled with clauses that would let the company out of the deal.

For example, if there is a three-year contract, WWE could break it at any time with just 90 days notice. Some top starts have enough leverage to broker better deals, but the company still is strict about protecting themselves with out clauses.

In Mysterio’s case, the company would be protected if Rey suffered another injury or Randy Orton had a behavioral incident and the company wanted out of the deals. In the case of an injury, WWE merely pays the downside guarantee, so there is incentive for the wrestlers to continue working. The policy was put in place in response to various wrestlers who abused WCW’s guaranteed contract system. This leaves the performers with very little leverage.

If the talent is locked in for a long-term deal, but the company can opt out at any time they please, it’s basically a no lose situation for WWE.

A good idea in my opinion. Considering Orton, well maybe not Orton, but Mysterio may be looking to wind down his career within the next five years, they'll wanna make big money out of Mysterio's last match.

Rey Rey's last match it's going to he huge. A lot of wrestlers say he's one of the only wrestlers in WWE they would like to wrestle (The Rock himself said it in his HOF introduction speech)

5 years sounds good. he's got 4 years at least left of being in his prime, and we all know guys stick around a while after their prime. But 5 years seems fair to both sides, so hopefully he signs.

This is pretty cool and I agree his last match should be real good. It would be awesome if it could be Rey vs Rock. So we get 5 more years of Rey that's cool.

4 years in his prime. Not saying Rey's past his prime but his prime was more less him berfore all of the surgury's. Now he's just not what he was back in the day.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a waste of time keeping him for five years? What's he done lately? and it's not like being on RAW will help.

No way, it sounds so horrible can't imagine watching it.

That super awesome feud with Kane.

He was injured for most of the year, so we cant really judge, but he has been in the feud with Kane and with Edge, and the Edge was rather awesome.

5 years isn't that bad. As long as there not trying to main event him and using him as more of a way of helping get superstars over. LIke they did with Bourne. I don't see a problem with hm. But no way can he main event that long. He's gone through way to many surgury's.

Give me 1 money feud per year:

Cena vs Rey Mysterio

Batista vs Rey Mysterio

The Undertaker vs Rey Mysterio

Chris Jericho vs Rey Mysterio

and maybe Jeff vs Rey.

You're joking, right?

@ what's he done lately?: Great matches with Kane, great matches with Edge earlier in the year and an incredible match with CM Punk at Armageddon.

I think well see him vs Jericho sooner rather than later... Perhaps when Y2Js done chasing Cena.

The other 3 sounds bit grim to me... Outcomes all too predictable (even if they may spawn a decent match along the way).

and maybe Jeff vs Rey.

If only they could find a way to succesfully turn him heel... They could have him assume some kind of darker character (All black mask etc.) pulling off hit-n-hide sneak attacks out of nowhere (even it's a bit Sting I think it'd be better)... Him then fueding with the currently re-extreme Hardy would be sick!

Small question: aren't money feuds meant to you know ... sell? Five year olds do not equal buyrates.

Rey can srsly fuck off. I wish him, Taker and a few other wastes of space would just go away.

Botcheriffic.
