A good rule of thumb is if characters in the movie/show perform the song as opposed to it just playing in the background during a scene

Brother, I saw the first hobbit movie in theaters with a friend who said after the second song in the movie that he was leaving the theater if there was another one and he drove all 5 of us there. It's like kryptonite to some people

Musicals are fucking dope. I mean I live a 45 minute train ride from Broadway so I'm a bit spoiled. But yeah there's so many options and ones that you don't really think of.
