First things first I want everyone to know that this thread isn't me complaining that Punk lost the title. This thread also isn't me praising Jericho for winning it. Yes, I don't like the fact that Punk lost it, and yes I'm happy that Jericho won it, but the problem is how it happened.

Punk is attacked backstage before the match and is unable to compete so they strip him of the title? What in the blue hell is that? Considering it's being reported that Punk is in good health, that makes absolutely no sense at all to me. I'm sure their goal was to change the title-holder without killing Punk's momentum, but there could have bee other ways. If you want to take the title off of him, you could at least let him lose it uncleanly.

I tell you what though, it will really piss me off if Punk forgets all about it and just feuds with Priceless. At least have a small feud with Jericho over the title.

Dude, I tottaly see where you're coming from.

The backstage attack was out of the goddamn blue. There was no reason for them to do it at all. Now maybe if he had some sort of injury [which he doesent] then I'd see the reasoning for this.

Well, now that this happened, later on down the line when he gets back into the title hunt, he can use this as an example of how he never technically lost the title and deserves to win it back.

But then how could they put the strap on Jericho, introduce the stable and kickstart the Orton/Punk feud? They did all those things in the space of one show, and imo it came off pretty well. I never thought Y2J could even be in the match, I suspected Orton.

But I know where you're coming from. Maybe if they built up this Punk v Orton for longer or something. And couldn't they have just kept Rey out of the scramble, and announced Jericho at Unforgiven? We have the same result, just with Punk staying in the match.

Well he could have used that anyways if had never been pinned during the match.

An attack from behind has more leverage though, considering he never got the chance to retain or even wrestle for it.

I like the way it went down. They went out of their way to protect Punk as much as they could. You will now hear Cole say a million times that Punk is "the uncrowned champion"

Had he been in the match, he would have still lost the belt, regardless of him taking a pin. This way, he never actually personally lost the belt.

I'm pretty sure that he will get a chance to win back his belt on Raw tonight, only to be screwed by Orton, the Orton Clones, and the random Samoan. He will then be in a main event fued with Orton.

This works out pretty well for Punk actually.

I posted this elsewhere, but here it goes again.

I know it's not fun to be a fan and see your guy lose the belt, but in this case that belt WILL come back to him. Just look at how things were booked out and it'll tell you that. They've obviously tagged Punk as someone they want to try and better develop now, so they kept him strong tonight, and gave him a built in reason and ability to go back and challenge the new champ anytime he wants. The only downside here is the bait and switch aspect to the world title match. That they advertised Punk, and did not deliver him.

I should add, Punk is actually in the top 10 in terms of top selling items, so he's making the company money. I think this is a case of WWE wanting to experiment with something new, finding a reasonable measure of success with it, and now realizing that they have a potential big star in Punk. They protect him, build him up, and Punk should end up in a better position in a couple of months.

Or he could randomly go back to the mid-card making this post irrelevant >_>

I don't see a reason for this, even with the explanations given above I'm not convinced at all. They could've done it in a somewhat better way but what happens? CM Punk gets attacked, replacement is Chris Jericho who wins the match and becomes the new World Champion.

No way, that just sounds so horrible.. :damn:

I like how this was done. I am a huge Punk fan, but this was good. Yhis way, in his first run, eh doesn't hold it too long. Also, it reewards Jericho for his work as of late. And finally, Punk never lost the belt, so that helps. You can argue he wouldn't have lost if he retained in the match, and was never pinned, but really, that could actually turn some fans on him if they see him billed as unbeatable during a match with 4 other HUGE stars.
So this was a good way for him to lose it.
Plus, there was a reason for Orton to attack Punk, which was after what happened last week on Raw, and earlier iin the night during the interview....

So I am ifne with where it's goig, and now that he's a legit main eventer, he will be in the title hunt again eventually.

I think it was a great. All in one show we got introduced to a new star, That is part of a new stable by looks of it. We got a title change and IMO to a star who has deserved it for a bit now. Plus the fact that they protected Punk to build him up to be potentially a HUGE future star. They didn't make him look weak because in actual fact he didn't lose the title it was taking away from him with out him actually personally been in the ring and losing it. And we get what will most probably be a great feud at some point Orton/Punk.

I think it's an absolute disgrace. I mean Punk gets attacked for no reason other than to prove Randy Orton wrong but why Punk? It was stupid and it ruined the match in the end. Also why put in Jericho when he had a match earlier in the night with HBK who beat him senseless? Suddenly Jericho is ok to compete and wins the title. It's crazy to say the least and im very unhappy with the writers!

Punk didn't get attacked for no reason. Orton obviously has issues with him being champ (jealousy, disgust, etc) so he made sure he didn't end the night as champ.

Jericho did nothing but crawl and lay on Kane. He sold his injuries the entire time.

These are both unexpected storylines that makes me eager to see what happens tonight on Raw. I'm as excited as I've been in a long time about a Monday Night Raw.

I have to agree, at first I was like WHAT IN THE WORLD...but then I got to thinking and it does bring back that old anxiety to see what is going to happen felling. That is what made wrestling so great in the 80's and 90's was that feeling of unpredictability. So in a way, yes, it sucks big time but on the other hand, it makes perfect sense and has been the biggest twist in a LONG time for the WWE.
