Kimbo vs Ken Shamrock on Oct 4

Source: http://www.cagepotato.com/2008/08/25/kimbo-slice-to-knock-out-ken-shamrock-on-cbs/

Ken Shamrock will be the fourth man to face Kevin “Kimbo Slice†Ferguson when the two icons clash at EliteXC’s third installment of “Saturday Night Fights†Oct. 4 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. The headlining bout will anchor a live broadcast on CBS. Sherdog.com confirmed the bout’s signing with multiple parties aware of the fight, while a press release is expected to circulate later today with the news. The 44-year-old Shamrock (26-13-2) beat out fellow candidates Sean Gannon and Brett Rogers, who called out Slice in May, for the coveted slot.

Okay. So first off, Ken Shamrock has lost his last five fights by first-round KO/TKO. He has a tendency to get grazed on the chin, drop to the mat with his eyes rolled up in his head, and then immediately pop up to complain when the ref stops the fight. Maybe it’s just bad luck. Maybe he’s more susceptible to flash knockouts than most all MMA fighters. Whatever the case, he shouldn’t be headlining a network television fight card. Slice vs. Rogers would be a contest that MMA fans would actually want to watch. The only question we’ll have after Slice vs. Shamrock is, will the World’s Most Dangerous Man finally retire after this one?

It’s as good a time as any to bring up this fun fact: Kimbo’s second EliteXC opponent, Tank Abbott, had lost seven of his past eight fights before stepping into the cage at “Street Certified†in February. James Thompson had lost six of his last eight when he faced Kimbo at “Primetime.†Now, perhaps because Thompson gave Slice more problems than EliteXC had expected, they’re giving him Shamrock, who like Tank, has also lost seven of his last eight. These guys are beyond “jobbers†— they’re woefully unsuccessful.

I’ve never thought that Kimbo Slice is bad for the sport of MMA, but EliteXC’s matchmaking certainly is. Obviously, the matchup is geared more to casual fans — “casual†meaning that they understand the concept of two dudes punching each other, and may have heard of the UFC — and EliteXC certainly needs big ratings on CBS in October. Still, I’m not convinced that a squash match featuring a guy whose prime is 14 years behind him is going to hook repeat business. With their landmark network television deal, EliteXC had the opportunity to spread the gospel of MMA to the unaware, and they’re squandering it under the assumption that a flashy knockout from Kimbo Slice will save their sinking ship. We’ll see if it does.

As a consolation prize, Brett Rogers — the man who should be facing Kimbo in October — will face the winner of Slice/Shamrock “sometime in the future.†EliteXC could be saving the Rogers/Slice grudge match for a pay-per-view show early next year. Meanwhile, CBS is stuck with another freak show.

Kimbo will stomp Shamrock :\ Shamrock has only had a few fights the past few years and he's lost all of them besides one (which he won) in the first three minutes of the fight.. I like Shamrock but this is dumb and ya lol they're feeding Kimbo jobbers.

Sry for calling you a jobber Shamrock <3333

Im not muh of an MMA fan at all, but this match is gonna be great. I think Kimbo may get the squash ending though. Kimbo has the size strength and aggression to win. Im looking forward to watching this.

lol, poor Ken Shamrock. I feel bad for the guy, they are literally throwing him to the wolves here. However, this will get MAJOR RATINGS.

I say everyday from now until the day of the fight, Shamrock needs to do a 100 double leg shoots every day lol. Shamrock needs to double leg take down, heel hook. If any other way Shamrock tries to approach it, he will be destroyed.

Im sick of reading about Kimbo Slice in every other topic that doesnt not involve Kimbo in MMA blogs or youtube comments.
Did anyone notice this? For example; if you watch some footage of Lesnar/Herring fight, you check on the comments in youtube by the users and you will mostly find 50% of the comments are about how good Kimbo is and how he will dominate ALL UFC fighters!

Is that a war Kimbo is trying to bring by using the internet for him to get a UFC contract?
Hence that he video's every street fight he had and post them to show that he is a beast.

:smh

In my opinion, Kimbo is a strong striker but he zero self-defence. If you watch his streetfight against Gannon, he was beaten the shit out of him.

Lesnar will dominate Kimbo easily imo for many factors here but im not going to talk about this as its not about Lesnar here, its about the annoyance of Kimbo in the internet >_>

Kimbo Slice...*sigh* A thug fighter with no real MMA talent just a street fighting aspect in an international spotlight. I do not believe the hype of Kimbo Slice. He is a bad face for MMA to be in the mainstream. I am sick of seeing him all over youtube beating up nobodies. And very MMA fight I watch there is a Kimbo comment on how he would kill them or whip their ass. BULLSHIT! Put him with a real heavyweight fighter and not a tomato can, he would be exposed for the pathetic fraud he is. I cannot wait for this fad of Kimbo passes so we can move onto real MMA.

If Ken has any chance it's his submission prowess. Otherwise I don't see how he'll beat Kimbo. Shamrock's last win was over 4 years ago against Kimo. Kimo...Kimbo...hmmm...No but seriously. Kimbo throws wild bombs and when Tito and Rich Franklin did it Shamrock was out. I love the guy for being the first real MMA superstar but that was so long ago.

I don't want to close the door on Kimbo yet. Once he fight a man in his prime we'll know for sure. The real question is when that will happen. EXC is being so careful with him. They're padding his record until he reaches no less than 7-0. A fighter with so much hype and aura around him, one loss will kill it.

I am still disappointed in his defense, or lack thereof. He trains with Bas Rutten and hasn't attempted a submission?

wtf? I am guessing it was meant to be a joke right because that was pretty damn hilarious. How the hell did he ever get a job as an MMA fighter? Jesus.

Can I say I'm also sick of so god damn much talk of Lesnar. I mean he's good but there's people who have been working at it a lot longer then him and therefore the MMA universe does not revolve around him. I say we should make a Kimbo thread and a Lesnar thread like had to be made for Cena, Trips, and Orton. Hell I'm going to do it right now.

lol J-Dawg, I personally thought everyone stopped talking about Lesnar for now until UFC 91, but now the Kimbo talk is going to kick up which is why WS made this thread :thumb:

All I'm going to say is that if Shamrocks wins. A lot of people are going to be out money. Not me though I don't dare bet on this one. Fyi. I'm talking real money. Lol.
