I've heard (not much anymore) that Cena only has 5-6 moves that he uses, blah, blah, blah, etc. But people think Bret Hart is one of the greatest wrestlers ever....when they fail to realize that Hart only had 5 moves. Cena can draw, he can star in movies, he can sell albums, he can do ANYTHING...Bret Hart couldn't even cut a fucking promo. Hart looked out of shape imo. In every Hart match I've ever seen (about 30-40), the match has been boring, with the exception of Hart/Michaels Ladder Match. Bret was beaten down the entire match, then, just like John Cena, makes an epic return and overcomes the odds.

People fail to realize that when they make the same old Cena argument (he's shoved down our throats, he's shitty on the mic) Hart is just as bad, Hart was fucking horrible on the mic, he was shoved down the throats of wrestling fans in the Mid 90's because of the Vince/Hogan steriod scandal shit. Vince shoved Hart down our throats until he became a joke. And people consider Hart the biggest superstar in history when he was only a main eventer for about 5 years in the WWE, and only about...2 and a half years in WCW.

I really don't get how people think that Hart is any better than anyone else. Hart had normal wrestling abilities and below average mic skills. Cena always has been, is, and will be, better than Bret Hart.

Bret Hart is infamous among REAL smarks on the internet for his "5 moves of doom". I can't instantly recall the sequence, but it had something to do with a Russian Leg Sweep, Back Breaker, Driving Elbow from the middle turnbuckle, i think some chops, and Sharpshooter. He later implemented Piledriver after his feud with Lawler.

The thing about how people say Bret Hart is so great probably comes from the fact that he was the only Canadian guy to ever really get over at that point and time in wrestling. And Canadians stick to their guns, whether it comes to insisting that Bret Hart was the greatest thing since sliced bread, or whether it comes to not dropping the whole 1997 Survivor Series screw job.

Bret Hart really rose to fame though in the fact of the new drug policy that was in effect from 1992 to I believe 1997. Being one of the few non roided up guys in the WWE, including Shawn Michaels, they both rose to Main Event status as the WWE tried to rebuild its image (see how long that lasted? lol).

So yeah, when it comes to marketability, mic skills, and overall superstardom, Cena > Hart. But you can't really knock any of their work ethics over the other guy. Both guys were work horses, and I respect both superstars for what they do/did in the ring.

Bret and Cena are in the same boat in my eyes. Both improved over time. Well while Bret was still apart of the WWF. To me they were nobody that I would mark out for when I saw them. Both have managed a reputation in the business. Good or bad! But they work(ed) their asses off. That's all that matters in the end.

If we were going to talk about wrestling skills, Bret Hart > Cena.

If we were going to talk about mic skills, Cena > Bret Hart.

If we were going to talk about selling injuries. Bret Hart > Cena.. ask HBK >_>

If we were going to talk about marketing.. Bret Hart = Cena (almost equal imo). Both had so much fans on their sides anyway.

We lose perspective in that Hart and Cena are from different eras. Its very hard to compare them without considering that Hart's career is finished, Cena has years to come.

I was a Hart fan, but I dont goo when I see him. He had a great gimmick. Ok moves. Decent selling. Bad mic skills.

The wrestlers who really get over in this business always do seem to have a sequence of moves - Michaels does flying forearm, kipup, atomic drop, slam, elbow... with SWM thrown in there somewhere and Hart did often use the comeback described above. But you watch either Bret Hart vs British Bulldog at Summerslam 92 or Owen vs Bret at Summerslam 94 and you tell me that's he's better than Cena. He could tell a better story in the ring imo

and only about...2 and a half years in WCW

That's Goldberg's fault, not Bret's. A lot of the blame also has to go to WCW for the way they used him upon his arrival to the company.

Now THAT is good for a laugh......Ok, now that I've regained composure, let me tell you what I think.

Your argument isn't all the bad. It's very good. There are similarities. Cena seems like he's all class and I was never fully buying the bad wrestler hype from a few years ago. The real problem is that for a pretty athletic guy, Cena's feet always look so fuckin awkward when he jumps. He's a bit clumsy. His arms are too big for his body and he gets the worst haircuts outside of Fort Bragg.

It has become trendy to bag on Bret Hart's matches and style. At the time, he WAS the greatest. Hogan knew it and bolted. Bret Hart left because he thought Vince is a sleaze...gee whiz, imagine that! Bottom line, Cena has been in some really good matches but no classics like the Hitman.
