Well, i was going to do a ROH best match post....but i figured this one might be a little more interesting.

I'll start off with a match i recently watched, and one of my personal favorites...

Bryan Danielson (C) Vs Homicide

Final Battle 2006

The match was set up perfectly over the course of 2006. The whole year built Danielson up to a super heel champion which one could defeat. Homicide finished off two of the greatest fueds in ROH history (Cabana/CZW) and quickly became the stone cold steve Austin rebelous character to Jim Corrnette the heel commisioner. During the course of the year, Cornette needed Homicides help to defeat CZW, in return Homicide wanted a title shot. Cornette lied and made him wait even longer, until finally cornette granted him a title shot, but if he lost it would be his last ROH match. With TNA taking Joe off of ROH, was Homicide next? Or did he win the championship?

This match was intense and one of the most interactive matches i've ever seen. The wrestling was alright, but the emotion and crowd support homicide had was insane. Some of the closest near falls in history of wrestling. Back and forth back and forth. I do think this match also had a few flaws. A couple no sell spots, and a sloppy reversal or two. But overall its one of those epic matches you can watch over and over.

9.5/10 for me

I felt the actual match could have been a bit better (The whole re-start of the match keeps it from perfection). Like you said, the fans were rabid as they rooted for Homicide and against Danielson. What makes this match more memorable, is the fact that throughout ROH's history, Danielson and Homicide have found themselves feuding with one another a BUNCH of times.

9.5/10.

Added a little bit extra due to the build up for the match. Homicide leaving ROH if he didn't woin the title by the end of the year, and Cornette throwing in all of these obstacles. This was a great build up to Homicide winning the title. Too bad he had a real short reign, with only a couple of defenses.

As far as the match goes, it was awesome like Homicide/Dragon always is. I remember their best of five series back in 05, and these guys always put on great matches :y:

This was a great match. The storytelling was awesome. Even though I knew that 'Cide was going to win, at some points in the match I still thought that Danielson might oull out the win.

Nigel Mcguiness (C) vs Tyler Black
From Take No Prisoners

Argueably one of ROH's top matches of 2008 thus far. The match up between these two had zero build up, but there was a story behind it, so to speak. Tyler Black joined Ring of Honor in September of 2007 and has been working his way up the ranks. Until this night, he was a relatively unproven. A definite dark horse to win the four corner survival to head onto the main event farther in the PPV. Once Tyler Black won, the fans quickly jumped on his side, going up against the bigger of the heels, Nigel. Tyler Black just 21 years of age, and only being in the company about 6 months has already shot to stardom in this night, something not much ROH veterns can claim. Within the match, the over cocky champion took the young challenger lightly, with what would go on to a epic match.

9/10

Very rarely to you see such a story unfold with zero build up. I thought the announcers did a GREAT job calling the match too. I think they deserve some credit as well.

IF YOU HAVENT seen the match...well heres a link

8.99999/10 If anyone wants to know how to build someone up over the span of one PPV, they should see this match. Tyler Black went from Jacob's lackey to the star of AOTF in this...

Great match, great story, but it had its flaws. Tyler really didn't get that much offense in against Nigel. I also thought that there was a bit of overkill with the kick-outs near the end.

By the way, Montana. Could you make either Joe vs Kobashi or Punk vs Joe as the next match that gets rated? I want to see what people here think about those matches.

This match should be renamed "A Star is Born" I really enjoyed this match and I'm glad ROH gave Tyler Black the chance to shine in the main event it was a feel good match until Nigel crushed Tyler's dreams which was the perfect ending.

I have no idea how to calculate the score, so I'll leave that to Montana. Now, for the match we have:

Oh yes... CM Punk vs Samoa Joe II. Rated 5 start by Dave Meltzer, and arguably it was THE match that put both Joe and Punk on the map. I'll rate in the near future.

Edit:If you haven't seen it. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DGLJO9HX

I've watched this match a couple of times, and the only flaws I could see were that the first 15-20 minutes was just Punk putting Joe in a headlock, which probably wouldn't get over in ROH's current state. The ending parts were great, with lots of near falls and false finishes. Personally, I liked Joe vs Punk III better, because they went all out with that.
