he apparently was denied his release in August

as far as ''business sense'' what makes the most business sense to me is not sign people you have no intention of allowing to finish their contracts. that is all

Very possible but he also seems like a guy totally happy to ride out his contract getting paid for doing things other than wrestling. It's also very possible he's on a notable salary and they just straight up cut him since he wasn't being used like the rest of them.
