Very entertaining, thoughtful and sad comedy. Kristen Wiig is percfectly cast as the oddball, who basically feels out of place around all the crazyness going on in the prepations for her sisters wedding. Her performance kind of reminded me of Bill Murray in a lot of films, it was very dry and bemused, and her reactions to madness going on around her are just priceless, yet she also does the psyhical gags very well. She is the only sane person out of the main characters, and yet in classic comedy fashion you both feel sorry for her and laugh at her.

The film works so well, for two reasons, firstly because the comedy is so broard, so even if he you are turned off by the toilet humour [which I did actually quite like], there are more subtle jokes, and some nice observationally humour which nicely balances the more slapstick stuff out. Also it is a much sadder, and bleaker film than I was expecting, because it is really about the farce which planner a wedding can become, and the sort of feels that are bought out as a result. And how great is it to see female characters, who not only engage in the sort of humour normally reserved for boys, but who are also likeable, superfinacal, funny and complex.

I have read many good things about this movie. I like the comparison of Wiig to Murray, I am a Bill Murray fan and if she is similar to him then that is a huge compliment. Wendi McLendon-Covey is in this film and I was a big fan of her work in Reno 911! so that did tempt me to see it. I may rent this film in the future when it is released on DVD.

Its a very good cast acutally, the actress out of Mike and Molly [which looks shit, but never mind], is very funny. There are even a couple of British actors in Matt Lucas of Little Britian fame and Chris O'Dowd of the IT Crowd fame.

Looks to chick-flickish for me to go see it despite the reviews it's getting. I'll wait until it's out on Netflix.

Honest it isn't, that is just the way it has been sold, because there is a wedding involved and the leads are females, that is just lazy promotion. Of course it is more aimed at women, but there is nothing wrong with that, as long as it is a decent women's picture and not one that reduces them to horrible steriotypes. It is a great comedy full-stop, go and see it!
