The Oakland Raiders made a massive announcement this week in announcing after only one season Head Coach Jon Gruden has had his contract terminated, and with immediate effect the Oakland outfit have recruited Kentucky Wildcat Coach Mark Stoops to take the position of the franchise's head coach with just one week to go until the first game of pre-season.

q9qit9A.jpg

Stoops wouldn't have much to say to the press, but would make it clear that he had some important business to deal with prior to the Preseason match with the Rams. Another new signing for the franchise would see veteran kicking Matt Bryant join the Raiders, which would seemingly mean bad news for Daniel Carson although considering Bryant's age - Carson might only be forced to sit on the bench for another season. Stoop would make it clear that he would be watching the first game from the stands, but that one of his lead coaches Jarno Stormberd would be making on the calls on the field - so that he could analyse the team to the best of his ability.

Stoop would make two things clear to the press though. First that was that the Raiders had to win at least eight games this season for his hiring not to be deemed as a failure. Second that he had would show no bias to his former college team regarding any talk of draft.

Week 1 - Week 4

After an average preseason where HC Mark Stoop started to get an understanding of how things went down in Oakland - the Raiders would find themselves hosting the Denver Broncos. The opening to the season would not go down in the way any new coach would want, with the Denver Broncos absolutely pummelling Oakland and leaving questions in the minds of the fans whether Stoop really was the man for the job.

The next two week though would prove to be more promised though for the Oakland outfit. They would compete in a hard fought victory at home, managing to to score two fourth quarter field goals to secure an important maiden victory.

Mark Stoop's first road game would prove to be massively impressive, and his goal of achieving a minimum of eight win this season were starting to look like a possibility as the Raiders claimed a second win in a row, this time at the U.S. Bank Stadium.

Oakland would have a second road game this time against the Colts in what would prove to be a hard fought game, although Indianapolis were just narrowly better when it came to crossing into the red zone in particularly in the second quarter. Matt Bryant the Raider's kicker though achieved a second career 62yd Field Goal - and despite his age of 44, backing up Stoop bringing him into the locker-room.

1/4 of the way through the regular season and the Raiders find themselves with a record of 2-2. It must be noted that nothing exceptional from the Raiders key players can be brought up, and Jarno Stormberd (Stoop's right hand man) had gone on record in making it clear that QB Derek Carr and WR Antonio Brown really need to step up their game if the Raiders are going to have any chance of seeing some really improvement for the rest of the season. Rookie HB Josh Jacobs has scored two touchdown in just four games, although it is already clear that he is hoping that Stoops is going to create an atmosphere where more running players take place. Matt Bryant though is proving to be the man of moment, not just his 62 yard field goal - but that fact that after four games he has a 100% FG record of 7/7. Last season Oakland only managed to secure their first victory in Week 4 and their second in Week 11, so there is a positive feeling in Oakland that this team could produce a progressive season for the franchise in need of creating a new playing culture having been nothing less than a second-rate team since 2002.

Week 5 - Week 9

The Raiders would find themselves travelling to London for the International Series, and losing home field advantage seemed to be apparent as the British fans seemed to have jumped on the bandwagon and there seemed to be mass support for the Chicago Bears. Antonio Brown would drop a catch during the last play of the game in what would be a 45yd Hail Mary pass, although even if Brown had caught it the Raiders would still have needed to completed a 2pt conversion - which would mean that Raiders would slump to a record of 2-3. They would spend the bye week having time off, with Mark Stoop making the point that this was not a season where playoffs was the expectation and that his sole focus was making sure that Raiders achieved their eight win minimum.

It would emerge on the Pat McAfee Show that whilst The Raiders had been in London, part of their coaching team had been in contact with the Green Bay Packers in an attempt to make a trade deal for Aaron Rodgers. Pat would make the point that this was trade was something that would never have gone through, but instead made the point that he believed this was a clever move by Mark Stoops to put pressure on under performing QB Derek Carr. McAfee would further his interpretation, that it wasn't a coincidence that the Raiders next fixture was on the road in Green Bay. Whether it was a strategic move by Stoop or a genuine attempt of securing Rodgers, there can be no denying that the Raiders were thoroughly impressive as they achieved a hard fought victory over the Packers. Derek Carr in particular threw four passing touchdowns, doubling his tally having only thrown four in the previous five game total. The game would be won with Wilson catching the ball in the end zone with just sixteen seconds left on the clock.

The Raiders trip to Houston was one of the tightest encounters of the entire NFL season so far, with both teams defensive games being at their very best. So much so that neither team was able to score a touchdown in a game that was put into the hands of the kicking units. Trayvon Mullen (CB) was highly praised by Stoop for successfully charging down and recovering the ball during an Texans attempt at a field goal that would of given them the lead. Old Faithful Matt Bryant would prove his worth once more and keep his 100% kicking record in tact by scoring a third field goal of the game with just four seconds left on the clock to secure an important road victory for Oakland.

The Raiders would return to Mount Davis for the first time since their Week 2 win over the Chiefs and do so in impressive style in a contest against the Detroit Lions. Antonio Brown would have a standout performance and achieve a hat-trick of receiving touchdown in the the game. The former Steeler who went to Central Michigan in the post-game would go on record in stating "he had never lost to Detroit Lions and had no intention of ever doing so." Later on in the press he would asked why he seemed so enraged about Detroit in which he would simply state that "Michigan was the worst state in the Country and that everyone from Detroit was trailer trash!" It wasn't clear whether Brown was serious or just trying to create a bit of a buzz around himself, but either way the Lions Fans were incensed by Brown's word to describe them.

The Raiders stand with a record of 5-3 and have already had a better season than the previous, Stoop would once again make the point that the franchise needed three more win to meet his expectations. The Raiders next game will see them play the San Diego Charges, with the winner of the game confirmed to take the #1 spot in the AFC West. After a second fan forum Matt Bryant would once again win the MVP award for the second 1/4 of the season.

Week 10 - Week 13

The Raiders hosting the Chargers was always going to be an important contest, not only because it would mean the victor would sit above the other in AFC West, but also that Oakland were one a three match winning streak and it was clear that the fans were hoping for the streak to continue. The Raiders' defence was absolutely superlative and they would manage to prevent the Chargers scoring for the first three quarters. Antonio Brown would also massively impress by being involved in a trick play, in which would involve the Jacob fooling the defence allowing for Brown to run over and claim the TD. It was clear that this victory meant the whole world to the fans in attendance, who were aware this would be the last time they would host their divisional rivals in Oakland before the relocation at the end of the season.

The Raiders would find themselves at home for the third contest in a row as they would host the Bengals. It would proved to be a high intensity game, although the fans would lose their mind when the final whistle would blow and the Raiders would have won their fifth successive game in a row in another historic first season for new Head Coach Mark Stoop. It could have gone very different, with CB Curtis Riley intercepting the ball in the red zone in spectacular fashion to prevent the Charges from tying up the game in the dying seconds. Raiders man of the moment Matt Bryant would also break a personal record by kicking his 400th career field goal.

The Raiders trip to MetLife Stadium was without a doubt the icing on the cake for the new leadership team, that would be capped off by rookie HB Jacobs scoring two rushing touchdowns. In yet another close game, the Raider would achieve their coaches victory of eight wins for the season and maintain their six match winning streak. Jarno Stormberd would make it clear that Mark Stoop was extremely happy with the direction in which he was taking The Raiders franchise, and that from here on out everything else is just a bonus. Stormberd would make it clear when questioned that no thought was being given in regards to the playoffs, and that if they found themselves involved then it would be seen as a welcome bonus to this season of rebuilding.

The Raiders would go on the road once more and this time complete their first AFC West divisional series match by visiting Kansas. Unlike the first game, the Raiders never looked like they were going to win this contest and at no point were they in front. It seemed to be a hard pill to swallow for much for the playing squad, but the loss would bring an end to their run of victories leaving the Raiders at a record of 8-4 with just four games remaining in the regular season.

Oakland have just four games left in the regular season, but the mid-season run of form has caused a lot of heads to turn. Most pundits believed that the Raiders would be very fortunate if they were even to come close to the target that rookie coach Mark Stoop had set for his outfit. Now despite what the organisation themselves was saying, the possibility of reaching the playoffs was seeming realistic. What was also still possible was that the Raiders could actually finish 1st in the AFC West, a feat they hadn't achieved since 2002/03 season (the season in which they be pummelled in the Super Bowl by the Buccaneers.) The question now is - do the Raiders have four games left this season?

I just enjoy the fact that my biggest win margin is 10 points - but most of them are one score games. I also have no idea, how I have pulled this off so far. Derek Carr is the worst 1st string QB I think I've ever used - 0% ability to move out of the pocket.

Week 14 - Week 17

The Raiders would host the Titans in what would prove to be their biggest defeat of the season so far. Mark Stoop would visibly lose his s**t on the sideline as he watched his team getting absolutely creamed.

The Raiders' final regular season game in Oakland would see them play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars and like so many of the Raiders' wins this season - it would be another close cut affair. The Jags would fail to convert a FG after being charged down by Nelson, only for Lamarcus Joyner to recover the fumble and proceed to run 92 yd and score a touchdown. Jacksonville though should have left with the win, but missed a FG attempt on the last snap of the game.

The Raiders clash against AFC West rival the Chargers on the road was a must win game, as it would likely have a massive rolling effect on who finished top of the division. Unfortunately for the Raiders, in a similar fashion to when they visited the Chief they would get another licking this time from the Chargers. This would result in both team having a tied record of 9-6 - although the Chargers had a positive points difference. Which now meant that if both team won next week, the Raiders would either have to score an extremely large number of points or hope to be in one of the wildcard spots.

This regular season was proving to be more eventful than the Raiders' fans had expected, with a possibility that a win over Denver would mean that the franchise qualify for the playoffs in their last season in Oakland. Not only would the Raiders claim a victory, but they would also put on their best performance of the season against an underperforming Broncos. Nonetheless this was the best game that the Raiders had delivered all season with a high scoring offensive and a tight defence.

The regular season would end and the Mark Stoop would achieve a record of 10-6 on his rookie season. The Raiders' setup would now find themselves in a position of waiting for other results to find out whether or not they would be given a wildcard game.
AFC WESTWL%Points Difference

As the other games came to a finish and the league completed the playoff picture it was confirmed that the Raiders had secured themselves a wild card spot and they would be visiting The Patriots at Foxborough. Mark Stoop would go on record in stating that he had was extremely proud of how his team had performed and that everything from here on out was a bonus. Stoop would state that it would be amazing to beat the Pats, but if he was realistically he didn't see the Raiders advancing much further. News would leak that the Raiders had been forced to offer a number of players larger contracts, and so would be losing a number of key players next season due to not having the budget to pay remaining wages.
