What’s new in the 2013 Xbox 360 System Update

Summary
The next Xbox 360 System Update is scheduled to be available in mid-December 2013. This update is part of our continued effort to provide the best possible Xbox Live experience. It includes and augments changes implemented in the August 2013 System Update. You’ll be able to download and install the update directly from your Xbox 360 console or through a PC.

How to get a new Xbox 360 update

This article describes the improvements and changes included in the 2013 Xbox 360 System Updates since August 2013.

System updates
Local currency

Microsoft Points were retired. After you install the update, transactions take place using your local currency. The monetary value in your Microsoft account is also stored in local currency, offering you a new, convenient way to purchase exciting Xbox content. This change allows you to use a single Microsoft account to purchase games, movies, apps, and entertainment from your favorite Xbox stores and the Windows Phone Store! Find out more about the transition to local currency.

Xbox Music

We’ve improved Xbox Music to make it easier for you to access your music and playlists. The Xbox Music Collection is available in the Xbox Music app. Features include:

  • All your music and music videos roam with you.
  • Playlists, radio (formerly Smart DJ), and video mix (formerly Smart VJ) also roam with you.
  • “Locker” content that’s not in the catalog can also be played back if it exists in our music cloud.
  • Your full collection is available on your Xbox 360 console. Add content to your collection through Windows 8 or Windows RT and get it immediately on your Xbox console.
  • Support is provided for Microsoft account local currency.
  • Xbox Music is also now available across iOS and Android, as well as Windows Phone.
Messenger retirement

Xbox retired Messenger as part of the August 2013 Xbox 360 System Update. However, you can still connect with your friends who have an Xbox console and Xbox Live by using “Send Message” or Video Kinect.
