WWE is producing a new scripted series based on a fictional pro wrestling promotion for NBCUniversal.
It was announced today that WWE and Universal Content Productions have partnered together for the drama series "Pinned." Here's the description for the show:
An adrenalized upstairs-downstairs soap that gives a behind-the-scenes look at a fictional wrestling promotion and the unforgettable characters that populate it. 'Pinned' offers a front-row seat into the eccentric wrestling culture and the mayhem that exists between the locker room and the boardroom.
Writer and producer Craig O’Neill, Fox Sports reporter Tom Rinaldi, and WWE's Vince McMahon, Kevin Dunn, and Chris Kaiser will be executive producers for the series.
"Executive Vice President: WWE Television" is Kaiser's job title.
Which network NBCUniversal plans for "Pinned" to air on hasn't been decided. Further information on when the show could be premiering also hasn't been revealed.
WWE is also currently developing the scripted series "The United States of America vs. Vince McMahon" with Blumhouse Television. That series is about McMahon and the WWF's 1994 steroid trial. It was announced yesterday that Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue will write and be the showrunners of the series.
