Niklas Backstrom vs. Mike Wilkinson booked for UFC Fight Night 53 in Stockholm
October’s UFC Fight Night 53 lineup in Sweden continues to take shape and now has its second fight.
UFC officials today announced featherweights Niklas Backstrom (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Mike Wilkinson (8-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) have been slated for the show.
UFC Fight Night 53 takes place Oct. 4 at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm. The event is expected to stream on UFC Fight Pass.
Backstrom, who fights in his home country, looks to extend his unbeaten run as a five-year pro. Most recently, the well-rounded 24-year-old made his promotional debut and scored a submission victory over Tom Niinimaki at UFC Fight Night 41 in Berlin. The victory, which marked his sixth stoppage in eight career wins, netted him a $50,000 “Performance of the Night†bonus.
He now takes on Wilkinson, a 26-year-old English fighter who opened his pro career with an 8-0 mark, which included a decision victory over Brendan Loughnane in his UFC debut in late 2012. Most recently, he fought in June 2013 and suffered his first career loss, via submission to Rony Mariano Bezerra at UFC on FUEL TV 10.
