Major WWE PPV might be getting ‘scrapped’

I'll be happy if they get rid of the gimmick PPVs and focus on just having appropriate stipulations at the right time for feuds. Although I think there can be an exception for once a year things like the Rumble, the Elimination Chamber and to a lesser degree Money in the Bank, the stipulations that truly require blood feuds need to be saved for them.

On the idea of Money in the Bank, I'll straight up say: I think Money in the Bank is dead as an effective concept to create a new star long term. Let me explain. The Money in the Bank contract for the past several years has been a mixed bag in terms of either creating a legit main event star long term. Even with two, it just hasn't worked. The year the Women's MITB got brought in Carmella won it (with the help from a human Toad with no chin who loves to stalk kids on X-box) she had a long time with it. But by the time she cashed in, her women's title run was a bit meh? She was a good chicken shit heel, but by the time she lost the belt she hasn't really been seen as a main eventer. The same year, Corbin won the men's, failed his cash in, and his career has been very up and down since.

Next year: Braun won the men's, failed his cash in, and had a bad heel turn. Alexa Bliss won, cashed in the same night.

Year after: Brock won which the best thing we got from that was Boom Box Brock, but he didn't need it to get a title match because he always has a Brock Lesnar in the bank. Bayley won, good thing is kickstarted her slow burn heel turn. But also... cashed in the same night back to back years.

Then we the COVID MITB. Otis... poor Otis. Asuka, basically was retroactively for the Raw Women's title because of Becky's pregnancy.

2021: Nikki ASH, cashed in night after (Wow, what a long time with it?) and her title run was really weak. Big E. He was probably one of the best MITB winners during this period minus the fact they telegraphed his MITB win to pop a rating which hurt the moment a bit and his title run was a mixed bag and then sadly he got injured afterwards when they put him back to Smackdown.

Then we have this year with another quick women's cash in with Liv Morgan, then Austin Theory, we'll see.

I don't know, but with all this time I think the Money in the Bank ladder match has lost its effectiveness. Either we have quick cash ins, or no long-term plans after the cash in.

The idea behind the MITB is still perfectly fine and still would work to elevate the winner, they just have to do a better job booking-wise and like I said before, having two MITBs is just too much... and with them wanting to bring KOTR/QOTR back as well, the best thing to do is neither doing two MITBs each year, as well as both tournaments.

Like I said before, they'd drive best with having one MITB match at Mania either for men or women and having a xOTR tournament for the other division that didn't get the MITB match, with the winner getting a title shot at the SummerSlam, if they actually put it before the SS in the PPV calendar. The year after, they just switch it around. That'd give both things a much bigger meaning and gives them such a better possibility to actually produce big things out of them. ...but I guess that's not gonna happen anyways, with how they believe they have to do it like they do for years now, even if it's simply not good.

I always thought about this in 2010 when the PPV was introduced a few months after there was a match at Mania lol it didn't matter obviousky bc Swagger cashed in so soon before the PPV was announced but I've always wondered what if

Definitely get the vibe from him here that HIAC is officially done as a PLE, while the Chamber and MITB look to be sticking around just potentially shifted around.​

Just keep them as match types n not as full on PLEs, nothing wrong w the matches themselves its just gimmicking an entire ppv is lame after a few years

I agree about HITC but I don't think MITB has to be scrapped as a standalone event though I won't be mad if they do become staples at Mania again though. Elimination Chamber absolutely has to stay though.

I’m cool with EC staying. I’d be cool with MITB back at Mania if they did one on Night 1 and one on Night 2

HITC just started feeling forced as a PPV.

Like there were times in the PPV era where it was warranted; I can think of Cena/Orton in 2009 and 2014.

But then there were times like Punk/Taker and Rollins/Wyatt where it’s the first match in the program and it just didn’t make sense

I'm on the fence, I loved watching MITB back at Mania's felt like a huge deal and was a added highlight to the show of shows. But that was back when it was one match on a one night 4hr show that allowed not as major talent a platform to showcase themselves. Nowadays with 8-10hrs of Mania I feel like it will be lost in the shuffle. The only gimmick PPV's I actually like to see on the schedule is RR, EC and MITB. I understand the need to possibly discontinue HIAC as a PPV but MITB hasn't got the same problem, that being running the match just because of the time of year and not on the severity of the rivalry.
