It seems as though Hollywood really is running out of ideas, as another remake of a classic movie is 'moving along' according to reports.

Stephen King's classic novel Carrie was originally adapted for the big screen in 1976 by Brian De Palma and last year it was announced that a remake was on the cards.

Now Deadline.com is reporting that the project is going ahead and Kimberly Peirce, acclaimed for her 1999 direction of Boys Don't Cry, may direct the new version.

Aguirre-Sacasa has experience in handling Stephen King's literature having also adapted his book The Stand into graphic-novel form.

When the remake was first announced last year, King mentioned to Entertainment Weekly that he thought Lindsay Lohan might be a fun choice to play Carrie.

King was the mastermind behind the 1976 original horror movie that starred Sissy Spacek as an abused girl with telekinetic powers.
In fact the novel was King's very first.

The Hollywood legend said in an interview with EW: ‘I’ve heard rumblings about a Carrie remake… Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White, hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast.’

Meanwhile, True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld, who at 15 would be a more appropriate age for the role, has also been put in the running for the lead role.

It wouldn't be the first remake of the cult film - Carrie has actually already been remade in the form of a 2002 TV movie.

The film was initially more faithful to the book, but went off the rails at the close with an ending where Carrie lives, and vows to help others with telekinesis.

This was apparently done so they could attempt a Carrie TV series, but that never came into existence.

There was also a 1999 big-screen sequel featuring a half-sister of Carrie.
The Rage: Carrie 2 was a box-office turkey - and the main character was not even called Carrie.

And a musical based on the horror movie famously closed after just five performances in 1988.

The show's songlist included such catchy numbers as Out For Blood, The Destruction and Ain't It A Bitch?.

Original stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie were nominated for Oscars for their roles as Carrie and her abusive mother Margaret.

I don't like the sounds of this at all... I like King's novels being adapted to the big screen but I'd rather ones that haven't been yet, not another remake! But that really isn't the main problem here at all, it's the fact that Lindsay Lohan could star?! That just sounds awful.

I AGREE with this 100%. Hollywood really must be dead as they can not come up with anything lately and what they do come up with sucks donkey ball.

What worries me more is that King likes the idea of Lohan playing Carrie....

Guilty confession, I liked the 2002 remake.

I will probably not like this one.

I'd see it no matter who plays Carrie... If Steven king is ok with another remake, why not?

There's nothing definite that says Lohan is going to get the role mind you. Steinfeld's name is also mentioned and if she was to play the part I could see it being good. Her work in True Grit was awesome and she easily has the range to tackle a character like Carrie White. Now all they need is to cast Marcia Gay Harden as her mother and the acting alone would make the film great.

Hollywood is set to ruin another classic with a shitty big budget remake.

OMG, please say tell me this isn't happening...

Saoirse Ronan would make a way better Carrie.

I wouldn't call the original film a classic by any stretch. It was good, but I don't think its as memorable as some people make it out to be.
