Jim Parsons quietly came out of the closet Wednesday.

The New York Times revealed that the “The Big Bang Theory†star is gay and in a long-term relationship.

Parsons, who is set to play the starring role of Elwood P. Dowd in Broadway’s “Harvey†this summer, isn’t directly quoted in the interview and doesn’t divulge any other details about his personal life or the identity of his partner.

In last year’s production of “The Normal Heart†on Broadway, Parsons played a young gay activist.

“‘The Normal Heart’ resonated with him on a few levels: Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment, he said,†reporter Patrick Healy writes.

The confirmation of Parson’s sexuality may not come as a surprise to some people.

When Parson's won the 2010 Emmy for lead actor in a comedy series, he thanked his rumored partner Todd Spiewak during his acceptance speech.

Well this doesn't change my opinion on him in anyway, still one of my favorite people on tv and one of the reasons Big Bang Theory is so great.

I feel the same way, it doesn't change my opinion at all. His personal life is his personal life and he is entitled to live it any way that he wants.

Surprise of the century!

I kid. Thought this was obvious long ago, but good for him.

I'm deeply offended by this. This is an outrage, I will no longer be watching TBBT.

For years they compared Sheldon to Niles from Fraiser and now this even furthers it. But he will never be the coolest gay guy on tv as long as NPH is around.

Not surprised to be honest, but good for him for doing it in a very nonchalant manner. It really isn't a big deal.
