The assault forced the "I Don't Want to Be" singer to cancel a Tuesday show in Saratoga Springs, New York, where he was slated to open for Maroon 5 and Train. He is also scheduled to appear on "Live! With Regis and Kelly" on Wednesday and participate in a LiveStream performance session for fans that same day. It is unknown whether he will be able to make those appearances.

The attack occurred after 3:50 a.m. and police do not believe it was a robbery attempt. A New York Police Department press officer told MTV News that there was no update on the case as of Tuesday morning and that no arrests had been made. The spokesperson also confirmed reports that after the beating, DeGraw continued walking and was struck by a taxi, though he was not seriously injured in that incident.

According to Billboard, it features collaborations with OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder — who helped pen the first single, "Not Over You" — as well as production by Butch Walker (Pink, Weezer).
