'Big Bang Theory' Star To Receive ADL Leadership Award

Dr. Mayim Bialik, the accomplished actress and author, who also has a doctorate, is being honored for her professional accomplishments by the Anti-Defamation League.

The Anti-Defamation League is paging Dr. Bialik.

Dr. Bialik is also known as Mayim Bialik, the actress who plays brainy Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit CBS sitcom, The Big Bang Theory.

Bialik can be called doctor because she earned her Ph.D in Neuroscience at UCLA in 2007. And she is still active in her field. This past March, her first book, Beyond the Sling was released by Simon & Schuster, which discusses attachment parenting.

So when she acts smart on TV, she really is…

Now she is being honored for her professional leadership by the Anti-Defamation League at its 18th annual Deborah Awards Dinner on April 26 at the Skirball Cultural Center, hosted by KTTV’s Good Day L.A. morning anchor and weather prognosticator Jillian Reynolds.

According to the ADL, “the Deborah Awards are presented annually to outstanding women whose leadership in their professions and civic contributions exemplify the qualities and ideals of the Anti-Defamation League.â€

Honorary co-chair for the event is Peter Roth, President of Warner Brothers Television.

Before she was Sheldon Cooper's “friend that’s a girl,†her role since the fourth season of the Warner Bros. comedy (after an earlier attempt at romance), Bialik was Blossom in the 1990s NBC comedy series of the same name. As a child she also memorably played young Bette Midler in Beaches.

Bialik, according to the ADL announcement, “is married and has two sons, keeps a traditional Jewish home, cares for her boys with her husband all on their own, and is thrilled to be working again, as well as writing and speaking for a variety of Jewish organizations around the United States.â€

Among other honorees at the dinner will be Renee White Fraser, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Fraser Communications; and Debra Wong Yang, a partner in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Los Angeles office and former United States Attorney for the Central District of California.

Good for her. Even now, it is hard to believe she was Blossom. I remember watching that show all the time (Jenna Von Oy FTW). I didn't know she had received her doctorate until now though.
