Becky Lynch Comments On If WWE Survivor Series Needs Higher Stakes

WWE RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch spoke with Vincent Beltran about her thoughts on if WWE Survivor Series needs higher stakes. Lynch also discussed her original idea for dropping the WWE RAW Women’s Title after announcing her pregnancy in 2020.

“When I found out I was pregnant, we were trying to figure out what would be the best way [to lose the title]” Lynch recalled. “I thought maybe a tournament for the title. A tournament for the number one contendership. And then at the end, when it comes down to the last two people, just before they have their match, announce that ‘Hey, by the way, it’s not for the number one contendership, it’s for the title.’ Have that be a very real moment.


“At the time, it was just before Money in the Bank and so, in collaborating with Paul Heyman, he’s like, ‘Well, we’re just going to have Money in the Bank be for the title, but they won’t know until the day after when you announce it.’ So, that’s what we did.”


At this year’s Survivor Series, Lynch is set to face WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte. In regards to the traditional Survivor Series Match, Lynch was asked if higher stakes were needed. Lynch admitted that brand supremacy was kind of an “outdated” notion.

“Yeah, that would be helpful,” Lynch said about Survivor Series giving something more to the winners. “I don’t know if — yeah, the old brand supremacy is a little outdated, I don’t know. At the same time, we’re all competitors. So, you always want to be the best. Whatever it is, whatever carrot they dangle.

“You always want to be the best, whether it’s the winner gets a frickin’ banana. It’s like, ‘Well, I want that frickin’ banana. I wanna prove that I deserve that banana.’ You always want to be the best. Whatever the logic is, you can make it work when you are a competitive human, which we all are. You don’t get to WWE if you’re not competitive.”

Becky is completely right about Survivor Series, there needs to be stakes added to the matches to make the event feel special and important.

Personally for me no. It's not enough for me. If Raw won wouldn't it be special if they got the number 30 spot for the Royal Rumble for both divisions. Or the main event spot on the next ppv? Vice versa for SD?

Let's have some fun here shall we? Let's say I am USA and on Raw. My team won. I would either chose first draft pick for next year or the better route, taking a star away from your brand on SD. That means I can chose anyone. I could bring Charlotte back to Raw or bring Sasha to Raw or gain back Drew that I lost on the draft.

Do the SVR route. Give the winning brand the main event of Night 2 of Mania.

The winning brand of Survivor Series should get the Mainevent of Mania.....but if that's not in the books, why not the winning brand get the number 30 spot at Rumble for both matches.

Then you could do some match where the winner of that one gets the guaranteed 30 slot for their brand.

I'm honestly fine with it just being a best of Raw vs best of SmackDown kind of deal so long as they leave it at that and not play up the brand supremacy.

But its never the best of each side, which is the problem. I'd prefer stakes or old school street hockey rules. Two captains (ideally 2 ppl that hate each other) pick teams n winner take all. Or any of the options above. The reason this doesn't work is they try to make it sports team like but wrestling is an individual sport so it's hard to get invested kayfabe wise without a old feud or actual stakes. Especially when people change brands yearly

I'd say it's more the fake brand loyalty weeks after a draft that I have an issue with more than anything lol

Out of these ideas, I'd say the one they should do is that #30 in the Rumble. It's easy enough to just throw someone in from the winning brand if you don't wanna do a story with it one year, or you can have the winning team fight over the spot other years. Any of these ideas having to do with the draft and Mania are probably two far in the future for WWE to remember or xare about Rumble being two months away is pushing it even

Pretty sure I said in the news thread where they speculated when the draft would be that they should just push it back a few weeks until after Survivor Series, then you can have the draft picks / order be tied into the PPV.

Or just don't have drafts because they are fucking dumb and horribly executed every year. Make brands have ppl stay on there for years so being on a brand means something

End the whole "Raw vs Smackdown" thing across the entire show. Even when WWE had "Bragging Rights," It wasn't to this extreme. Return Survivor Series back to what it was before. Using some big elimination matches to blend feuds together, potentially start new ones from it, or in situations where there is a clear hate between groups. Then you can still have singles grudge matches, big title matches, you know, STUFF THAT MAKES A PPV FEEL IMPORTANT!

If you want some Raw vs Smackdown matches, save it for the tag team matches and add some stakes to them. Like the men and women have a tag team match (No need to put all tag teams in one match, just too much) and the sole survivors from each team get a number one contender's match for their brand's title.
