John Cena was a bigger PPV and ratings draw than Steve Austin in 1998
I'd say Cena got over more than Austin because at times, Austin's redneck personality was a little stereotypical. It was charismatic and could draw strong reactions from the fans, (it did from me, too) but Austin tended to go a little overboard. Cena was a little more diverse in that respect...
