You say that WWE is not about wrestling, in 2012 alone we have seen an increase in amount of time spent in the ring of a whole 33% on RAW alone.     The wrestlers on NXT have in large part freedom to create or help create their own characters. Sabei has worked Generico for years, what is to say that he didn't want to try something new since he is starting on a fresh slate?     Allowing him to experiment. He's in developmental so he has the freedom to do that. It's what they do with new talent, try out different gimmicks to see what is the best fit.

    That's what I think. Why else would he be using Del Rio's old gear? Plus it is developmental. They are going to try loads of things to see what sticks. They will probably figure out that he works better under a mask/heavy gimmick and work from there somewhere down the road.

    That could actually make for an entertaining story. LEt him debut as your typical vanilla midget style wrestler. Then have some heel (maybe someone from Main roster, Slater could do it considering it is NXT) complain about him not being exciting, entertaining or larger than life. Let this go on...

    Some more proof that they are just trying something out... He's wearing Del Rio's trunks. That's Del Rio's design on them. They are probably trying out a couple of gimmicks before getting him on TV and deciding what to do there.

    Considering he is working under his real name they are probably testing things out, like they do with all new stars before settling on a gimmick. Remember Kruger running around as something else before becoming the hunter? They are old memorabilia that they cover the walls with at live events...
